Lion's P counters

So I finally caved in and got a ps3,(first one was broken but anyway..) Lion's high and low punch counters are at first impressions, pretty crap. Does anyone know when they are good to use because the advantage (if any) that it gives you seems so small its better to just evade. Lion was screaming out for some kind of low punch counter but it seems fairly pointless to use it. Any comments/advice on this?

I seem to throw them out at the right time without meaning to. And I never capitalise on it. It's a subconcious (and therefore useless, pretty much) thing. I think of them as flair moves for showboating.

The counter alone is worth nothing you've got to go to your opponent side by pressing up or down then you can often get a side throw. Always buffer P+K+G and then up, up or down down so that you don't miss the timing.
Use the move against canned strings that contains non-knockdown HP, HE, MP or EL for example second part of Akira's 66+P+K,P.

Oh right, there's a canned evade? Or is that just the way evade comes out from that move?

I think its a parry. Try a midkick or lion's dblplm if you get to their side in time.

Thanks for the replies, I knew about the canned evade but it still seems to not give much or any advantage. Doing it against strings seems to lead to me getting hit on the next hit but it must have it's uses. Anyone use Lion's kenpo stance? The one where he shuffles his feet. As soon as you see him shuffle you can just low punch him as he cant hit for a secnd after he starts the shuffle. Seems a bit lame as well. One thing I did see was good about the low punch counter is that it actually ducks Lion so in a situation where you thik they might either do a throw or a low P its good then. Any other info like this-please share!

i never use the high or low counter moves in FT, although in VF5 is extremely useful with the extra side evade. as i remember in FT, Chibita counters the last hit (i.e. ppp) and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif straight after. still it's useful to throw off your opponent's string attacks if you can predict it.

as for the kenpo dance's why not use the knee to counter their low punch? by the time your opponent see you shuffles, you already finishing the shuffle animation and into an attack.

I'm sure they can hit you with a low punch before Lion has the chance to do his knee.

only if they're fast enough to see it coming, i have 50/50 hit success. most people will block it rather than risking a low punch counter.

I've only recently started using the move (didn't play VF4: FT except for one day in New York--punch parry was in there).

I could sort of use it in serious play, but I don't know if I'd take much advantage with it. But in casual play, I've been able to setup (by accident) some situations where I'm behind the opponent and having potential for big damage. I haven't tried combining OM with it, but it seemed like you could setup some great situations and the dodge seemed a bit better than the usual dodge.
