Offline events? Team-based competition? A kumite where the player uses all the characters? This past week had a little bit of everything! Events with results and/or videos that occurred during July 7 - July 11, 2021 are listed in chronological order.

Dengeki Cup, Legends Kumite, and a Team Battle from Japan were some of the organized events that happened last week: June 30, 2021 to July 4, 2021.

Ultimate Showdown has been out for a month and events are occurring more frequently. Just this past weekend we have 7 organized events from all over the world! Here is a summary of the various events with links to brackets and videos.

At Evo Japan 2020 VF5FS was held as an official side tournament. It was capped at 64 entrants, heavily stacked with local Japanese talent and saw a thrilling Grand Finals played out between rising star Shiwapon and the legendary Homestay Akira! Shiwapon emerged as the Evo Japan 2020 Champion, showcasing his talent with a variety of characters during the top-8. Now, more than a year later, it's time for the runback! A FT10 revenge match exhibition will be streamed live this Friday, 18th June 2021 at 20:00 JST. Details inside!

Less than two hours ago, Sega live-streamed an announcement and in depth look at the upcoming Virtua Fighter x esports (Or Ultimate Showdown, as it's known outside Japan). The full stream lasted just over an hour and we have an in-depth breakdown of the main points covered.

We're finally ready to announce VF Global Showdown, an international tournament taking place during Q4 2022. The tournament will feature a top 8 from EU, NA and Japan. Those who qualify will be going to an offline final which will take place in Scotland at the end of 2022. Read on for all the rules for qualifying alongside clarifying any questions people have about the event.

The Salty Runback, a term familiar and oft-used within the FGC, describes a rematch request by the loser in a hotly-contested set. The winner usually accepts on good faith terms, indulging the loser's chance for redemption with a quiet confidence that it's all in vain. In the Japanese #VirtuaFighter scene, a similar concept exists by the name of the Sendai Rule.

Announced at TGS2020 as part of SEGA's 60th Anniversary is a new project titled "Virtua Fighter x esports". Little is known at this stage, but details on the project will be revealed in a future update. What do you think it could be?

The 2nd Ankoku Bujutsu-kai (Darkness Martial Arts Tournament) will see its final 8-man tournament held Sunday 23 August 2020. As a result of major offline events being cancelled due to the pandemic, this online-only event in being organised and hosted by Tetsuko and Homestay Akira. On this day in 2010, SEGA released Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for Japanese arcades, followed by a international console release two years later for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. To celebrate this occasion, I compiled a blog on Destructoid looking back at the journey with VF5FS and how it still holds to this day compared to other modern-day fighting games.
