This tournament will be one month after the release of Narutimate Accel 2, so the rules for that game will need to be determined throughout the coming weeks. Virtua Fighter 5 will be on the PS3 unless we can get enough 360s and copies of version C.

We are definately not doing 360 for this tournament... this one will still be on the PS3.

Why? Controller setup on the 360 is a NIGHTMARE. We've seen this at recent 360 tournaments. While the PS3 lets you hit the home button and change the controller designations in a very simple process, the 360 as of yet, offers no such feature. When you plug your stick in, whatever controller you are is up to the complete whim of the console. Its confusing and we have yet to figure out a way to easily assign controllers.

This simple problem, easily doubles the length of a tournament by making every match take too long.

here's a solution. when using a pad, plug it in with USB to the designated side (1p or 2p). it easily recognizes the controller. during your tournament, you should NEVER run these pads via wireless.

Okay... here is the next question...

Two STICKS are plugged in, but one player wants to be 1p, and the other player wants to be 2p. However, the system has configured their preferences in sides backwards.

How do you switch the controller settings? Unplugging them, and trying to plug them in order from 1p to 2p doesnt work. Switching the USB ports of the controllers doesnt work. In the end, the only thing we could figure out was to simply restart the console.

no need to restart the console. if it gets all messed up, all that needs to be done is to go back to the title screen. whatever controller enters the menu from the title screen is player 1 for the game (the xbox may say differently, but it doesn't matter).

yeah, it's still a little bit of a hassle, but it's not the end of the world (and you definitely don't have to restart the console).

    so, back to your question

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Two STICKS are plugged in, but one player wants to be 1p, and the other player wants to be 2p. However, the system has configured their preferences in sides backwards.

Exit Vs and go back to the main menu. If a profile is logged into whoever is controlling the menu that person must log out. Then exit back to the Title Screen. Whoever wants to be player 1 then must hit start to enter the menu.

The sides are now switched and noone had to restart anything.

Great... then how do you set up player 2? The other player ends up being player 3, while there are two controllers, one as player two and the other as player 4.

My work schedule has changed... I'm working 3rd shift both Sat and Sunday nights for the next few weeks... :p so I won't be able to make this one.

Sad that I'll miss hanging out with you guys for another night, but I also prefer xbox ver C for my play style, so no big loss on that end... =)

Flash, you can't plug in a 360 pad. They are only wireless.

Jaxel, I agree with the above advice. Going back to the main menu is the key to reassigning controllers. Ignore what the controlers say re: 1-2-3-4. The player that initiates vs. mode from the main menu is player 1 AFAIK.

There are wired 360 pads, I've seen DOA players use them.

I guess they are sold separately as I believe all 360's come packaged with wireless controllers.

if a pad player wants to join in, and there are 2 sticks already plugged in. by unplugging the stick, you are turning the stick off. so when you plug in the pad, it will be automatically assigned as whichever USB port you plug it into (1p or 2p).

also, it doesn't matter who is assigned as what port on the xbox. all that matters is who controls the menu. all four controllers could be plugged in.

port 3 on the xbox could control player one and all three other ports can be player two. it doesn't matter. all that matters is that whoever wants to be player two hits start on in the character select screen in vs
