1 hour and 15 minutes of getting owned by Vanessa.

Since I suck online, I thought of devoting my efforts on fighting the AIs.

Just a few minutes ago, I fought Vanessa on expert arcade mode and spent a good 1 hour and fifteen minutes trying to beat her. The best I was able to do was beat her 2 rounds out of 3. Gotta admit I was a bit pissed.

For one thing, every time (EVERY TIME) I attack low, she blocks followed by a low throw. Everytime she attacks high, she does that kick+throw move thingy that comes in both high and low varieties depending on how I react.

And for everything else, she DMs and OMs me.

    NIGHTMARE!

    Any tips?

You might try playing a foe in the dojo and its max level until you learn to play her better in quest mode or online. Just a friendly tip any way.

    DS CH6K > 6P+G or 3K+G > 6P+G

it's fun to pull off, painful to watch

Break low throws or preferably don't do that many lows in the first place.

This is a fantastic chance for u to train urself to buffer low throw breaks after ur low sweeps. Then when u play vane or aoi, etc online and u start escaping low throws ur opponent will be like, this guy is good : )

Social Ruin: Oooh, definetly, i have this bad habit of punishing sweeps with throws and if i come across an opponent who breaks them i'm like OMG and freeze up and low punch or throw high or some other sillyness.

When will i learn that blocked sweep -> midkick?

To the original poster: i find that AI on the arcade vanessa is overly defensive, if you're patient you could probably get in 2 throws per round.

As far as the "kick throw thingy that comes in both low and high varieties" is concerned i think you're mistaken somewhere. OS has indeed hit throws in both mid and low varieties, however the arcade vanessa plays almost exclusively from DS. As it has been already pointed out you are probably referring to te DS sleeper holds - those come only after mid moves though.

The situation is usually pretty equal after someone escapes a throw, so p/2p is a pretty good idea. Especially against people like me who always think they can get away with SDE /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Oh no, i was talking about the next time i block their sweep. I go all panicky trying to remember what to do other than a low throw. This is particularly true against Lion's [1] [K] - the low throw won't work because of the pushback in that move and you'll see me being at a loss against an (xbox live) opponent who spams that. My play patterns are really limited i guess :X3:

After my opponent breaks my low throws i tend go for DS [3] [P]. I have that imprinted in my muscle memory after playing the V4evo AI so much - the AI would always try to elbow and would always get CH by my 10f move, freeze up, and i could go for another throw. After breaking Elbow Rush the AI behaved the same way, went for an elbow, got interrupted and froze so the whole process could be repeated a couple of times. Nowadays, trying a high move is riskier against akira but Cut Upper is still a safe bet against most other characters after vane's DS throws are broken.

Blocked sweep = /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif hit throw

Unless the sweep is -20 or worse, then you do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif since it's a little better damage.

Jeneric, that qualifies as a midkick, doesn't it? ;)

Question though, i've noticed that, while in OS, punishing sweeps at long range with [4] [K] + [G] sometimes whiffs. [6] [P], [P] + [K] + [G] has ever worse range and [9] [K] + [G] flies over my opponents sometimes. And in another thread we've already established that [6] [6] [K] won't crouchguard stagger on recovery. [3] [K], [P] + [K] + [G] seems to be the most consistent of the bunch, still, sometimes the second hit whiffs without explanation.

    Any advice?

The way /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif animates it will only combo on some characters if you slightly delay the execution after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. I've noticed this on Aoi, El Blaze, and maybe Akira. Sometimes when you input the string as quickly as possible the backhand will fly over the opponents head because they're still in the hit animation for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. It may be a good rule of thumb just to have a slight delay when inputting the whole thing.

But if you delay it won't be a natural combo anymore, will it?

Since we're into that, the tracking on the backhand is also somewhat off. I've had people evade vane's forearm towards the direction the backhand is supposed to track lots of times.

(BTW ggs dude, you had me pinned down (y) )
