2008 madden challenge-Times square

I was watching the sports network(our sports channel in Canada,based out of Toronto) the other day, and I didnt realize they have videogame competitions of this nature. Two players were competing head to head in a game of madden 09 I believe, for a grand prize of 100,000 (!) .

The game was displayed up on a huge screen high above times square, There was a huge crowd of onlookers and supporters watching these guys compete. It was funny just how into it some of these people were getting, almost like it was a real football game!

Anyhow the show incorporated "coach cams" where the two competing players discussed their tactics and what plays they plan to use etc. The one guy ended up winning something like 28 to 14... and became 100,000 dollars richer,just for playing a freaking videogame.

Anybody from NYC see this go down or what? watching this made me think about how wicked it would be to have a similar competition for VF5, or maybe even Soulcalibur.

Of course neither games are as high profile or mainstream as the hugely popular madden games, and also dont have the corporate backing of EA sports.

 

oh and the commentator guy had a gold Xbox controller on a chain, I thought that was pretty funny.

 

the only game i could see getting publicity like this possibly is Street Fighter, but that'll be a cold day. . . a verrry cold day.
