2008 most disappointing and best game

What up yawl. 2008 is almost over and I just wanted to know what game stood out among the pack as your favorite and most disappointing.

My game of the year: Gears of War 2
runner up: Metal Gear Solid 4
Why: I loved the original! It was simply awesome and the sequel GOW2 expanded on everything that made part 1 a classic. Beautiful graphics, awesome fights (a few nice boss ones!), great multiplayer, new enemies and weapons, and tons and tons of wow moments. This game had not 1 down moment for me, I played on hardcore from day 1 and the level of difficulty was superb. The only bad part was probably the story which I never really cared for to begin with. I really loved Metal Gear 4 but it suffered from a long drawn out boring story, with way to much cut scenes. The boss fights was also a disappointment. Esp. when Metal Gear 2 and 3 had awesome boss fights!

Disappointment: Resistance Fall of Man 2
runner up: Soulcalibur IV
Why: I don’t know if it’s because I played this game right after finishing GOW2 BUT THIS GAME IS JUST BORING. The graphics also suck; the control setup tried to mimic COD4 but doesn’t feel as tight. Quit after the first 3 stages, Bin trying to sell it ever since.

 

Gears of War 2 is fun but it can get frustrating dealing with the overpowered chainsaw and the cheesy "2 step" tactics especially when not the host

 

Game of the year-Farcry2. Yup, Farcry2, been playing it at my bro's crib and I consider it MY GAME OF THE YEAR. The fact you use pliers to pluck out the bullets out of your body sold the game to me. The open world aspect is a huge welcome to the Farcry franchise and FPS genre. Never played a FPS world as in depth as Farcry2.

Runner-Up-Valkryia Chronicels. Very refreshing game in art direction and to the genre as a whole a must buy to any PS3 owner into SRPG's.

Disappointed Game Of the Year-Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The glitches, the sound drops, the wonky camera, the cheap AI, ruined what could of been a great title.

Runner up-Wii Fit. Damn you Oprah, my girl stole my Wii.

*nods head* this is why I only play horde mode. They shouldn't have added the stun effect on smoke grenades. Half the time your dodging grenades and not gun fire.


for me game of the year will have to go to Fable 2. Unfortunately I bought many games this year, but Fable 2 was the only one I actually got a chance to play for a decent amount of time. I know it's probably not the best, but it was the best experience for me since I have leveled down from a hardcore gamer to casual.

WORST GAME OF THE YEAR - <span style='font-size: 17pt'>MORTAL KOMBAT VS DC UNIVERSE</span> - I dear not get started on this fucking piece of dog shit thrash. Barbie games are better than this shit!

 

Best Games I played this year:

1: Valkyria Chronicles = I liked everything about it the only game I played this year that kept me up at nights. I thought I was getting too old for games because I wasn't enjoying playing them as much as I used to. This game brought it back and reaffirmed that I'm definitely a gamer. It's just that they don't make game like they used to: fun. There's too much emphasis on the bells and whistles these days, but hardly on the core of the game.

2: Uncharted = I missed playing games like these, adventure Indiana Jones type of games. I thought this game had great production values while still having a great core of gameplay.

Most disappointing game for me is MGS4. I'm a huge MGS fan but MGS4 is just not as fun for me as the previous games. I expected it to have a wacky and convoluted story, and that never bothered me. The gameplay is just missing something...i didn't like the boss fights as much.

 

Best Game of the year for me:

VF5. I second Oioron statement, I too had thought I had outgrown videogames, thank you VF for bringing me back to one of the pure joys in life (well maybe "pure" joy is overstating, sometimes i get pissed).

Worst Game: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, what happened to you baby, we used to be so good together. Sadly, I didn't change, you did. (I can still throw it in for ps2 and its a blast. Winning Eleven was the name on ps2).

Hmmm, Game of the Year would have to be ... I dunno MGS4 and Fallout 3. I don't care which one is the numero uno and which one is the runner up. (Fallout 3 as a great rpg-ish game, NOT a great "Fallout" game, that's a fucking difference!)

Most disappointing would be... not MKvsDC 'cause I wasn't expecting much from it. I'd say that Wii Fit or Wii Music is shitty, but I haven't played them (prolly never will, don't care).
Mirror's Edge - After all the ads and all the hype, the game turned out to be average at best /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif (IMO)

 

Hmmm, I may have to check FarCry 2 out then.... so far all I`ve heard people say about it is how they hate the copious amounts of driving you have to do.

 

Most Dissapointing game of the year definitely goes to Haze. How the developers of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and the Timesplitters games managed to make such a p00p game is beyond me.

 

HAZE came out in 2007, unless you guys in Europe got it this Year.....Opps never mind, I got thrash confuse with other thrash(Unreal Tournament III)Carry on, totally forgot how many times HAZE got delayed.

Mine would be VF5, even though it came out in 07' I got it in 08'. I haven't played and enjoyed a game this much since Skate, big thanks to my bro for introducing/pressuring me to try VF5.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is my runner up or "official" 08' game", that game is badass. Too bad all that drama went down with the creator of it right after it was released.

Don't really have a worst game, I haven't really played much else, just a few minutes here n there with my nephews and their games.

 

Best for me:
Fallout 3: Awesome story (although a bit to tracked for me)...great graphics, and a lot of fun period.

Runner Up: Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Fixed almost everything wrong in "vanilla" Supcom.

 

Best:
LittleBigPlanet - Any game that my GF pesters me to play is a great game in my book.

Most dissapointing:
GTAIV - Technicaly, it's amazing what they did. However, the game just had no depth in my book.
