    Hey guys~

Actually I'm looking for one device that I can plug into my laptop in order to get internet service anywhere. What's the name for this? 3.5G??

I'm also wondering which company provide this service? AT&T or Verzion? Has anyone used it before and how much does it cost??
    Thanks~

I used my Blackberry connected to my laptop USB to access the internet before. Verizon gave me a free 1 month trial of it, when I got my new phone and upgraded service. For the service itself it would cost an extra $15 a month to continue doing that.

All unecessary for me, because I don't travel around all over the place anymore. The connection was good too, except if youre in places where your own phone doesn't connect well, then there's trouble. These phone services lie to you in the commercials when they say they have the largest networks and best connections, all of them say it, and none of it ever gets proven it's just what they say.

    Thanks Slide,

Let me make it clear, does this kind of service have to use a SIM card to activate the internet? Which means you need a cell phone plan in advance?

Basically all I want is to browse the internet anytime and anywhere with my laptop, is there any specific service plan or detail?? I remember I saw one commercial from Verizon that he plug one device with antenna something like that into the laptop. What's the name for that device??

Sprint and Verizon both have wireless internet PC cards. Do a search on that.

I think you can get them for under $100 but they also include a monthly service plan.

ATT is 60$ for a card, and then $60 a month and include 512GB a month limit. I work for ATT in billing, and i think wireless internet is not a good idea. I have just seen too many problems with it. I don't know if Sprint or TMobile are any better. But unless u are getting it for work (i.e. u have to get one) i say it isn't really worth it. Just my opinion.

    Some more info:

The data card is registered very similar to a SIM card. You don't have to have existing service, but when u get the card u have to start an account if u don't have existing service. The card is then assigned a phone number (seems weird but it is what happens) and internet is then used thru the assigned number at the rate of the card-->$60/month for 512GB.

Again, i don't believe it is worth it.

A big drawback is that it is hard to know how much internet u are using. Sites vary wildly in how much bytes they use to browse, and if u go over u are screwed. I regularly see people with $1000 of dollars in overages and they had absolutely no idea they went over. U can check your usage, but the actual usage at the time can be almost completely up to date, or 1-3 days old info, and there is no warning as to how old it is.

Only you can decide if it is worth it for you. One thing i would say you would want before u did this, or to make sure u get when u get the service, is go thru a store, and make sure to develop a "working relationship" with an agent there. Find someone who will put their name and reputation behind what they are selling u. If you don't feel like you can trust the agent you are dealing with in the store, then you can't and don't buy any service or equipment thru them. I'm telling you a see on a weekly basis people who have been screwed over by the store agent.

I can't stress enough how important it is to find someone in a store you can go to face-to-face who has previously committed to helping you. It is a great tool to have for unexpected problems. I would not get service if you can't find this type of person. The higher ranked they are the better. Ask to speak with a manager.

One thing i do a lot of time to overcome the fact that i don't have wireless internet is this: Before i leave my house i will download several podcasts and minimize them. I will open up an article i want to read and minimize it. Etc, etc. You may find that u can simply open and minimize a surprising amount of the things you may plan to "browse" and then even though you are not connected to the internet, so long as u just close ur laptop (sleep mode) and don't shut it down, it is all there for you. Many businesses have free wi-fi, so you can regularly quickly bring up what u want and minimize it to view and browse later.

Either way u go, good luck.

ATT doesn't. They used to, but they changed it to the 512GB and switched everyone's ulmtd to it. People were pissed.
