i guess a lots been said here.

    some minor minor gripes,
When i was on stage, the tv volume was low, and we played behind the main speakers. So all we really hear is mostly bass hits, slightly disorienting at first. Also going from HD -> SD in the finals. I know its for video capturing purposes, but gotta point it out.;)

Also between the qualifiers and the final 3, i really wanted to get a drink of water, but kinda got rushed to the stage with no way to get out. Maybe ill get a maddy sized water next time.

Again minor gripes that can be easily fixed. Everything else went smooth and the commentating was a blast. Thanks for getting the media out quickly, and hopefully those brackets will be completed soon too.

and maybe not make tekken best of 7? man that was looooooonnngg.

Didn't Konjou tie with me for 5th? At the moment he's listed as tied for 7th.

This tournament went fairly well, but I was concerned that results had to be reported by the players. As much as I trust the players in the tournament, I can imagine a situation where a dispute can occur and a third party might not be available to clarify.

We were fortunate that KOD was kind enough to clarify a recording error in which the organizers thought he won his match when he actually lost.

I do want to thank your organizers for being patient when the New York crew were delayed in making it to the tournament. It would not have been the same tournament without them (obviously, considering who won).

You guys did inform players that registration began an hour prior to the tournament, but maybe posting registration times and then posting tournament start times will help ensure that players understand what time they are expected to be there. I did see that some players were a bit confused about when they were expected to be at the event.

Also, are the brackets intentionally not put on display? I can see a variety of reasons why this would be the case, but it certainly threw off some competitors who are used to playing in tournaments.

Finally, while I believe players should bring their own sticks (sadly, I was one of the ones who forgot), I appreciate you guys having a fighting stick 3 available for use. I just hope you guys will have more of them available in the future. Though ideally, the Virtua Stick High Grade will suit all needs for PS3 fighting games the best.

In any case, thank you guys for setting up this event. I really enjoyed myself at the tournament.

Thank you for you response. We are taking notes of all feedback from the players, and we will address them in a few days. We agree with what you are saying.

One thing we are interested in, is purchasing sticks for use. Can you link me to the VF5 sticks???

Hey thanks for an exciting tournament! I was particularly happy to see the finals being broadcast on stage. I do have a few suggestions/feedback:

    - The match information displayed on the LCD is not sufficient. What we really want is to see the whole bracket and know who we have to defeat to advance. Bracket information was held in the organizer's PC which the players were not allowed to view (to avoid too much of a crowd). It would be great if the brackets could be made public, because I felt blind advancing through the rounds.

    - Matches should be played evenly, not on a first-available basis. What I mean is that, for example, the 4th round of the winner's bracket should not be played until the 4th round of the loser's bracket is completed. We had a situation during the tournament where the winner's bracket was completed but the loser's bracket had 3 rounds left to go. How does this affect things? The amount of time between matches is uneven, and someone could wait too long or too soon before the next match. The latter can be problematic especially when the loser of the winner's bracket has to wait on deck for a match on the loser's bracket. By the time they play, the guy who waited will be a little cold while the guy who just won would be warm which I think can be unfair. If you space out the matches you avoid this issue.

    - No table was provided in the final matches on stage where players can place their joysticks. Instead, they had to play on their laps, which is inconsistent with they way they had played throughout the tournament. If it was me up there I would have probably been bothered by it.

    - I know the tournament was BYOC, but it would've been great if you had more sticks on reserve for loan. This is a minor suggestion as I do think the fault is more with the players than with the organization.

To summarize the feedback: publicly viewable brackets, even spacing of matches played, consistent experience in the finals relative to the rest of the tournament, and more sticks to loan.

Here are some links to the Virtua Stick High Grade. Too bad Play-Asia's 20% off deal expires tomorrow and they are backordered on the VSHG.

    VSHG at Play-Asia

    VSHG at NCX

While the VSHG is spendy, it should be known that its stick and buttons are easily replaceable which is useful for long-term consideration. And it is a very durable stick.

ask Plague for advice. Honestly the tournament on Saturday blew away the Sunday tourney.

minus the big stage and bigger hdtvs

Very true -- the Saturday tournament was incredibly well managed. It's a shame that the buy.com seems to be getting a disproportionate amount of the attention here on VFDC (because of the prize money?) because the Saturday tournament was run so well and had a higher overall level of talent in Yosuke, Shang, and Ladon.

well, if the other guys can talk about the norco tournament please do, im still waiting to see brackets/replays on that one. I only got to goto one, so thats all i can talk about. Plus, brian posting this on the buy.com thread is kind of unnecessary.

It's too bad you only "got to goto" one tournament. I'd hate it if my life was under someone else's control. I could understand if you just didn't want to go on Saturday because two tournaments in a row might not be your cup of tea. Hopefully whatever chains you down will set you free.

Brian's post counts as constructive criticism (because he offered a solution) requested in the first post by JC Media. I'm not sure why you think it was unnecessary.

Edit: all of the above is personal and it's my problem. Sorry about that. If I had it to do over again, I'd say, "You know, Alex, it would've been cool if you'd made it on Saturday."

I didn't go to buy.com/lan and I'll post what I think made the Saturday event go smoothly:

    Full set-ups arranged in advance.

One person dedicated to running the backets.

Two people dedicated to making sure fighters went to a set-up and making sure the results were recorded and reported to the bracket runner.

Clear instructions in general of what to do and when to do it.

Now, the buy.com/lan may have had all of the above - I wasn't there. Also, there were other tournaments going on and maybe there weren't enough people on staff to give each game this kind of attention.

Hopefully the next one goes smoother.

    Hello,

I just wanted to thank you all for coming out. I appreciate your support and we are taking a lot of your suggestions to heart. I agree with ice-9 about the way the brackets should have been run, however, the fact that we had to get everything done by the time we were scheduled to be on stage made us have to expedite things. Also, the fact that people were waiting on sticks slowed down things as well. All in all I really do enjoy doing VF events as I believe you all are the most gracious and respectful community. Thank you again.

Some feedback - there was a pretty rude girl working for you guys. When I told her that I was waiting for some sticks she said "professional players bring their own sticks." Way to insult someone who paid $25 to play in your tournament.

I would have played on one of the pads that were available to us but we weren't allowed to test them out during free play before the tournament.

Also, in regards to being rushed, the tournament started late. It was scheduled to start at 11:00, and for those of us who planned our days around the tournament, starting it on time would have been nice. It seems kind of backwards that you guys felt the need to rush us after starting the tourney a good 30 minutes late.

Other than that everything went pretty well. The finals had a big match feel to them, I felt like I was that kid in "The Wizard" :). I'd definitely go to another tournament hosted by you guys in the future and it's a shame I'll miss your tour cause I won't be in the states.

actually we were 30 minutes late because the NY guys were behind schedule =/ It took a lot of persuading to make it "late"

atleast it wasnt 3 hours late from what ive been hearing of the DOA tourney

    Namflow,

NYC will take full responsibility for the tourney starting late. It's not JCmedia's fault. Honestly I am the one to blame. I personally asked if they could hold it up a bit because we were running severely late. My personal apologies if this made conflicts in your schedule. I will do my best not to make this mistake again to hinder anyones day.

JCmedia has been getting a lot of crappy feedback and personally I don't like it. This is not directed to anyone personally, but think back to the past and try to remember how many VF tournies we used to have. Pretty much none. Remember they are new, so lets try and give them a chance to develop. The fact that they are supporting VF at all in there events should make us all a little more gracious. They get my full support because I don't see anyone else(and I don't mean player based users) giving VF some well deserved love or giving anyone of us the opportunity to compete. They are doing a much better job than Sega.

No problems man, I caught the train back to San Diego on time and everything. It's cool they held off the tourney so you guys could made it, travelling from NY to Cali just to miss the tourney by a few minutes would suck. An announcement like "The VF tourney is gonna start 30 minutes late" would have been cool. Standing around wondering "When is this thing gonna start?" is annoying, but if I knew "Konjou is running late so we're gonna wait till he gets here" that woulda been fine ya know? Plus I'm used to living in Japan where things are usually on time. I could set my watch to the train that ran by my old apartment. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

And I definitely agree that it's awesome they hosted a VF5 tourney, and I'd definitely go to another event hosted by you guys if I were in the states.
