1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

50 cents for a New Challenger? - Reaching out for support

    Hello VFDC community!

I'm reaching out to everyone I can, drumming up support for a worthy cause. It's a global issue, and this community is a global group.

I think it's tough to find anyone not touched or scarred by this disease. Family, friends, coworkers, neighbours, you name it. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, as are both my mothers-in-law. My aunt died from it. My cousin died from it. It's everywhere. You've all heard it before, that every penny counts. It's cliche, but it's true. And we can make a difference.

This is a worthy cause and I hope you can support me in any way you can. I encourage you to donate the 50 cents that we would otherwise use for a New Challenger, or perhaps even share a story here in the thread. Anything. It's about raising awareness and I can only hope this can help.

I bet you have many requests to make donations, and I know you can't support them all. I also realize that donating to a charity is a very personal choice, but if you are able to make a donation to support my fundraising, I would really appreciate it.

My online Ride to Conquer Cancer homepage is here:

    Many many thanks in advance,
    Llanfair

Seriously? If people want to donate then they will.

Part of the best practices in fundraising is persistance. If I want to bump a thread, then I will. Is it an issue?

    Donated.

One suggestion to your original post is to perhaps mention that you are going on a ride for the cause! Tell us about the ride? The distance? The course? Tell us what you're doing, and that may inspire others to get behind you.

Otherwise, to new comers and even regulars around here, especially those who don't know you or your long history with this community, it just appears as some random guy creating a random thread asking for a donation. One gets a hint at what you're doing when you eventually mention your "Ride to Conquer Cancer homepage", but mentioning it so late in the post might mean that you've already lost your potential audience.

Also, since you're not that regularly involved here lately, it might even be a good idea to re-introduce yourself? Help newer members make a VF connection with you.

In any case, good luck and God speed with the ride! I expect to see some photos if the opportunity allows, but please, no photos of you in spandex sipping a cappuccino at the finish line! ;)

    Good call, Myke!

Well, to those of you who do not know me, I am long time VFer from Toronto, Ontario. I started playing VF1 in the arcades and was a prominent and avid member of the VF2 and VF3 arcade scene, all the way through to VF4:Final Tuned, with a stint in VF5. Having traveled all over the continent and around the world, I truly hung up my competitive VF skates in 2009 after being privileged to compete for Canada at the WCG tournament in Chengdu, China. It was an amazing experience to hang out and compete with Fuudo, all while touching base with other VFers that I had known for some time from around the world. I still have a great love for the game, and moreso for the lifelong friends it has provided me. I just do not have the time to be truly competitive anymore - the torch is passed :)

Onwards and upwards to this ride I'm fundraising for!

Over the past 4-5 years, I started to cycle in order to get off my sedentary ass and get back into shape after too many years of laziness, comfort, etc. What I didn't realize was that cycling was just as addictive as VF. Having been an athlete when I was younger, it was quick to return to my brain that it is fun to suffer in an endurance sport and to lay the hammer down on riding mates. So i kept riding. And riding. Last year, I managed to crack 7000kms for the season and I'm hoping to outperform last year and rip 10000km this season coming up. (Ontario weather be damned)

The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a 2-day ride, from Toronto to Niagara Falls. It is approximately 260km in length and covers some of the most beautiful riding roads that Canada has to offer. I will be doing this ride with over 2000 others in hopes to continue to raise money and awareness for the importance of cancer research. It's an awesome event. Some parts are grueling, others serene, and often times it can be somewhat emotional. It's pretty amazing to even see some cancer survivors doing the ride. It's huge inspiration, for me at least.

And Myke, it's not spandex, it's lycra! :) And yes, I do shave my legs. I am a frequent forum contributor over at velominati.com and I'd be flogged if I didn't adhere strictly to the Rules. Actually, many of "The Rules" would be well adapted to this community! Rule number 5 is certainly a mantra I can see here...

Many thanks to those who have contributed thus far. It means a lot. I hope more of you can contribute, because every little bit counts. Really.

    Cheers!
    Llan

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!

Many of my close friends have gotten into cycling, and if it weren't for football I'd have joined them by now, so I'm all too familiar with The Rules, and the opportunity to remind others about no. 5 is never missed ;)

Anyway, you should update your original post with this latest update!
