Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. Hi, as you can tell I'm new here on the boards and to the VF series. I bought VF4:Evo the day it came out and I think it is great, its the best fighting game I personally have ever played and I really like the more realistic fighting it has as opposed to more over the top fighting found in other games. Anyway, on to my questions:

    1) Is it recommended to start off with what is considered an "easier" character or just choose who you personally like and learn with them?

    2) Is it necessary to learn about the frame rate advantage/disadvange I've been reading about to compete at higher levels?

    3) In general how long do you think it takes to become reasonably competitive on the standard difficulty in Quest mode and normal difficulty in Arcade mode?

I'm just wondering because I do plan on taking the time to really learn how to play.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the boards, it seemed like a good place to post this at.

No. I recommend you to pick a character equipped with 'standard VF moves' - like normal elbow, normal sidekick, regular low punch. Kage, Jacky, Lau, maybe Sarah. Probably not recommended - Shun, Aoi, Lei; you'll find it difficult to understand VF principles if you start with those.

I'd say yes. Maybe it's not necessary, but it's certainly helpful. Knowing your counter options etc. adds a lot to your game.

Reasonably competitive vs. CPU? You only need a set of tricks to crush the CPU, even the harder one in Evo. Let's say a week. If you meant competitive against human players, playing the CPU can't teach you that. Apart from technical knowledge and dexterity, experience plays the biggest role.

P.S. I'd put that thread in Character and Technique Training forum.
