You can tell what rank you are just by counting how many different colors of outfits you have. If you have 5 you are 1st dan. Every new one you get just add 2 ranks. Pretty simple in my opinion

ShinAkira's point is that there are 17 different ranks that you can be and still have access to 10 costumes, so number of costumes isn't a good proxy for rank at the higher levels.
