Ok, i got the list of the best and worst ai's, and they are (best to worst):

    Wolf
    Akira
    Lion
    Kage
    Jeffery
    Jacky
    Sarah
    Aoi
    Lau
    Pai
    Shun
    Vennesa

    And the worst one is..............................

    Lei Fei
(This is just the A.I. compatability, this ISN'T about the best and worst CHARACTERS, it's just about A.I's)

I pretty much agree with the lest, although I would probably put Akira ahead of Wolf. I would actually put Jacky lowerâ€â€the Jacky AI is horrible, it's just that his character is powerful. I also think that Lei Fei's AI is better than Vane's... if you don't believe me, try beating Vane with just mid reversals... it's sickeningly easy.

Lion AI is pretty tough, but he dies to continous low punch. Keep pressing and all he will try to do is his evade attack. You will MC his attack and then you throw and win and laugh.

Assuming we're talking about the a.i.'s ability to hold it's own w/ whatever char is in question compared to what that char is actually capable of..

I would say Akira first just cause his a.i. can pull off combos full of moves i have difficulty executing in training mode, but that's kind of a cop out on the ai's part so i dunno. Wolf is good at blocking, using elaborate throws (hard to throw-esc), and switching up his combo rhythms (as to confuse you).

Jeffry above Lion because altho i have more difficulty against Lion i think that Jeffry suffers the handicap of lack of variety/depth in tactics, yet the ai manages to play relatively well w/ him.

Wolf, Akira, Jeffry, Lion, Lau, Kage, Pai, Sarah, Jacky, Aoi, Vanessa, Shun, & Lei Fei

Meat's right about Jacky's a.i., altho i'm not convinced he is as over-powered as everyone suggests he is. I think all the 'beginner' chars have somewhat of an edge..they're, for the most part, very well-rounded w/ an emphasis on offense.

edit: oh yeah..you're right about Lei Fei..his ai is a button-masher, ha!

The problem with AI Lau (mine anyhow) is the inability on my part to teach him to float and destroy the floater. Also down attacks, the AI won't perform them regularly. And you can forget crouch dashing...I don't have any idea how to teach that. The good things about Mr. Fist
was his defense and his throwing, always did what I never can, [P] into [4][6][P]+[G] (needs work).

i would have to say yu have overrated wolf (IMO)
his main throw is the HCB one.
    he only uses 4 throws.
i would put akira high up though cos he uses skill a normal player would, eg sde-->dblpm.

All right, Akira's the best A.I, And wolf is the second best, BUT I STILL STAND FOR MY OTHER A.I'S!

Sparring mode is useful for teaching combos to your AI. In Lau's case, every time you demonstrate the [P]+[G] or [4][6][P]+[G] throw, always follow it with [3][K]. That way he'll be more likely to follow up in guaranteed stomp situations. Also I've discovered that during your AI's matches, holding X will make him defend and pressing circle will make him attack. If they block or attack successfully while you're instructing them this way, their stat points will increase more often than not. I've yet to teach an AI how to crouch dash or perform ETEG. Hopefully VF Evo for PS2 will have an upgraded AI mode with more options. My goal is to create an AI that comes as close to high level human-style play as possible......the ultimate sparring partner.

    Now there's a pretty good idea I haven't heard before...someone
teaching their AI to fight with human sensibility. I don't think
it will happen, exactly, only because the AI still falters with
frame disadvantage, if I'm saying this right, meaning the AI will
hesitate the way all AIs hesitate to attack or follow-up on a grounded
opponent. The excellent parts of my Lau AI is that he will throw your
ass as soon you block and he's close enough, pretty much the
way a human will. He's also great at the low P, and delaying and
variating parts of the PPPdK and PPPK, mixing it up with sidekick
and throwing on every opportunity. For entertainment's sake, I'd like
to teach my Lau how to think in terms of the wall, getting opp.s to the
wall, floating them, then raking them off the wall with PPPK and a down
attack. My boy got to Hero rank but keeps flip flopping from 10-Dan to
Hero. Shun AI was the same way.

There definitely seems to be a glass ceiling for AI's when it comes to rank. I've never gotten one past hero rank either, although I've heard of people getting theirs to High King/Emperor. I imagine this requires endless amounts of time sparring, replay reviewing and coaching during matches. All that precious time could be spent improving my own skills instead of being a spectator.

Still, I think the idea of creating your own sparring partner is
valid, though I think my AI still plays like any 10-Dan AI in Kumite
mode. Matter of fact, when this Lau AI reached 10-Dan, I went
into VS with Lei Fei and ripped him apart. I mean 3-0 and an
excellent. But I also didn't PUSH it either, by continuing. I wonder
if the Lau would get better from VS against me? Only reason I
didn't continue was I was worried about the damned win/loss
    record.

The game definitely needs more options in sparring mode. Maybe some kind of "infinite round" setting where you battle your AI endlessly as you would in VS mode, but with no wins/losses counting towards their record. That way, you could kick your AI's ass relentlessly until they learn to evade/reverse/throw escape. Also, AI's never seem to grasp the more complicated combos. I've shown my Akira shrm, P, shrm, m-dblpm over and over again but he never seems to grasp it. Maybe it has something to do with his rank, his stat points, "trust level" or whatever. There's so much information about AI mode that Sega/AM2 has failed to explain in detail.

yes, it is impossible to teach him that /versus/images/icons/frown.gif
i think it is because it is imppossible to teach your A.I to learn to do CD modified moves. also, he will NEVER perform a combo unless he's able to do it on his sparring partner, which is unfortunately, impossible.
also, a good way to train him throw escapes and ETEG is to go into Versus, select to be the same char, and do whatever you want on him. My ai now does TTE almost all the time because did surprise exchange on him so often, that his escape stats went up. it's about patience, but it's also their ability.
as for the sparring, you should be bel to do a temporary recording of YOURSELF beating up a lightweight with shrm-pg-m-shrm-m-dblpm, then he does an EXACT replic of your recording.
this would be a great added feature. /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

In the higher ranks the A.I. of Akira will start using d,p too much to get in those FC moves, and he starts to really get bad.

  15. gamesmaster1_2be

    gamesmaster1_2be Well-Known Member

no he doesn't. he uses crouch dash modification a lot, and a lot more than any of the other A.I's.
in fact, he uses technically excellent things such as sgpm, reverseCD, dblpm, otr blocks low attacks, tricks you into evading then throws you or whatever. it's quite sophisticated, especially when you compare it too Jacky a.i, or lei fei A.I

Really, my Akira's a champion and he just won't stop using d,p. he NEVER crouch dash modifies no matter how much I teach him to. how do you get him to? /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

My AI Akira has trouble doing this grab move [6] [4] [P] + [G] then the follow ups. The follow ups are the problems cuz he just stands their.

Has yours mastered the move ?

I don't know why you all rank Pai as third to worst. I got my Pai AI floating everyone and once a float starts, she kills opponents dead. she is fast opener, smart pouncer, evades, reverses...do it all chick. she gets out of throws, and like I said, once she floats anyone, she follows up like a pitbull. she techrolls...and I seen here dash a lot. she is my only AI. I have trained her hard and sent her on Arcade missions and recorded the fights (hard mode, 5 rounds) and ...well it is all in the training. she PKG when she falls and can even interrupt Akira SPoD sometimes (rare but I seen it) perhaps when I make new AI's I will understand. they must be easier to trainI reckon. I only have Pai AI now, so she is all I know. she is "unpossible' to beat. I set her off in Kumite after 2 weeks of training in arcade and replays of my own Kumite fights, and fighting ME. she ripped to high king with zero losses. she is easily 75% excellent too. she can do all combos. sure I have to train her hard. it pays off.
