A problem with evading and attacking

I've noticed that I'll successfully evade an opponent's attack and go for something like a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif combo or something and yet the opponent will still hit me before my attack connects.

This happens most often against faster, combo-y characters like Jacky, Pai, and Lau. I was wondering if some of the vets could tell me what I'm doing wrong—I've read the mechanics guide several times but I don't think my specific problem was addressed. Am I using the wrong move after evade? Or evading at the wrong time? Am I too slow to follow up after my evade? I'm basically asking what is the safest and most powerful stuff to unleash after a successful evade. Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to attack after evading a move in the middle of a string?

If not, then you are reacting too slow. When you evade something like an elbow, you don't have much frame advantage, but it's a good idea to go for throw or PK as eileen.

If you evade big moves, you are guaranteed 4PPK.

srider is the k of 4ppk guaranteed then. the dojo doesn´t show it as a true combo. or does it have different properties in some situations?

    Should be guaranteed.

sounds like your trying to evade in the middle of a string to me, this happens to me quite a lot to. My instinct is to attack if I evade so I have to learn to block instead during strings.

that´s good to know. i vaguely that´s awesome. it´s isn´t guaranteed normally (just tried it in the dojo) but it seems it is after a succesful evade. I didn´t even know that, great info.

No I meant that..it should be guaranteed combo on counterhit... so if you get recovery counterhit after evading something with slow enough recovery it comboes.

Yes that's exactly it. I'm evading mid-string and being hit out of my counter attack by the rest of their string. I guess my problem is that I'm not familiar enough with my opponent's strings to know when the window for "evading then attacking" is best (especially frickin' Jacky). It's a bit frustrating for me because I guess I expect to be given free attacks after I evade any opponent's linear attack—heh, I guess VF is not that type of game. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Regarding 4PPK, it will all hit if it's counter or minor counter. meaning if you have +13 or more, it will all connect.

About evading: well.... it's a bit more complicated and situational than "I should be able to hit my opponent after I evaded their linear attack"

There are strings that are slow enough for you to be able to hit the opponent after you evade the initial hit. You can also evade more than once. There are also instances where you can force the opponent to go off axis after you evaded the first hit. It's also possible to OM around behind people's backs if they are doing strings for a much bigger combo.

It's really not as simple as "I don't get free attacks after I evaded," or "You always get free attacks after you evaded."
