Akira's modified moves on a pad....yes on a pad.

Ok, this is for the few Akira pad users out there who have trouble modifying FC moves in combos like the double palm, shoulder ram, etc.

Go to free training mode. Try some combos that end with modify-required moves (like stumble throw -> single palm -> double palm). Do every hit in the combo except for the modified move.
Instead of trying the actual move, do a forward or backward crouch dash. Just concentrate on the input. accuracy. *If Akira doesn't crouch dash when you input it, you will not be able to pull the move off. You're CDing too early. If you do see him CD, then you will be able to pull it off.* This helps your timing a lot. So just practice stumble throw, single palm (guaranteed by doing d,f+p), forward/backwards crouch dash. Once you've got the timing down of the CD animation, finish the combo once you think Akira will crouch dash.
    I hope this helps.

I've managed to pull off stumble throw, single palm, double palm 10 times in a row doing this method.

I know, I know. I know where I can get one, I just need money. But for now, a pad will do. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

    Buy a stick!

For most of people, including me, stick is better of course - but maybe some people actually PREFER pads? I know quite a few myself... plus, money is also an issue. So since the pad vs. stick thing has been discussed before, don't start another discussion here :p

I used a pad with Akira a few months ago with "decent" results, but I highly doubt that his full potential can be reached without a stick. ST, sgpm, m-dblpm is 100% easier on a stick (in addition to his various other combos ending in m-dblpm). I'm not trying to turn this into another stick thread or anything, but to be serious about this game you definitely need a stick .... especially with Akira IMO. It's the only way to go.

I understand where you're coming from. There's no doubt that I'll buy a stick, but I just wanted to help the few Akira pad users on this board.

I feel completely helpless with a pad. I might be able to do a couple of moves, but just simple things like struggling give me the creeps. Well, I just can't undo the last couple of years that burned VF sitck controls into my mind /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

Yeh. I use a pad for akira- I can do his multi d-pad input commands ok in slomo, but I cant get "df K+G - fP - bff P+K" I've only hooked it once or twice in real time.I think using Aoi helped me a bit with akira- they both have a ground based static style - I call these characters "semi defensive" as they are only really effective if you use their reversals / multi throws. I live in New Zealand and have only ever seen the aincient Namco "arcade Stick", wouldn't mind trying one of the newer ones.Any suggestions out there?

Try the search button up above and look for "stick" and you'll find the advice of about a zillion people.

The most dextrous akira I've seen uses the tekken4 stick and doesn't mess anything up. Others recommend making your own out of custom parts (it's easier than you'd think) or modifying a stick from another system that you happen to like.
