Just wondering if fighters like you also appreciate some good RPG...(not only NWN) /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well, I´m a former NWN player for all it´s worth, I kinda quit playing just before the first expansion. I played almost exlusively on the Path of ascension server. And I wouldn´t be surprised if the mention of the halfling sorcerer Shianti and the coven of Vecna still instills a sense of horror in some of the older players (Shianti is after all the first one to kill both "the mother of all dragons and the drow queen, both the toughest enemies on the server) /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif ( I did play for quite some time and made a name for myself) and if you go to a store on the server you can find a monk ring called the ring of Fu-wei that I designed. There is also a paladins full-plate to be found somewhere in the underdark that I also made. I dunno why I quit just got bored with it I suppose, sure there are 2 expansions out and plenty more to be done but...bleh.

Anyway Path of ascension (PoA) is a pretty cool mod, it´s very action and party oriented, fast paced and VERY unforgiving, go try it out if you haven´t. Although it´s not that "role-play" friendly so if you like chatting in victorian english and defending your "characters" sense of honour it´s no good /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Personally I've played perfect games (side quests, 100% completion, level 100/99 which ever is max in that game, all possible accessories/abilities weapons... optional bosses everything) of FF VI, FF VII, FF VIII, FF X, and FF X-2 (currently). So yes I guess you can say I'm into RPGs.

Another question: in the case you play NWN which class (or build) is your favourite?

my favorite class would have to be the monk. working on a cleric right now, thinking about multiclassing with a fighter or paladin.

Hehe, well like I said I didn´t play the expansions so none of the special classes and only 20 lvls. If you want stats/feats and skills then whoa I´ve forgot all that stuff a while ago. But at one point I was so into it that I actually wrote a custom cleric/paladin character from the top of my head, complete with all feats/ skillpoints allocated customized to the mod I was playing, and that cleric was friggin perfect, with divine power and bless and aid (and a 2H holy avenger /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) it had the highest AB possible, and it had highest possible wis for spells at the same time. So the most powerful chars I´ve created have been a sorcerer (feat/spell selection is key here, note: by default no enemies are immune to negative energy damage so even like a lvl3 vampyric touch spell if empowered or maximized can be powerful, get all negative energy spells for sorc or wiz) a halfling monk (dex for AC is key and wep finesse, damage sucks, but he hits and everything misses him, very good for party because he always stays alive no matter what and can do a lot of good, not to mention winning PvP tournaments :p ) and the cleric/paladin for versatility and well, fun factor /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif .

A note on character creation. The best characters have NOTHING wasted, not one single skill point / attribute point or feat. So, BEFORE you create a character you should know exactly where every single attribute point during lvl up is going to go, if you have one waisted odd point, try to use it on something that will help you in some way (like raise your saving throws). Max important stats like AC (for fighter/monk/cleric types) or the spellcasting for spell casters, and AB in the same respect (I mean think: max possible, break the limit of other characters on the server). Same with feats, plan ahead and know exactly what feats you will select untill you reach max lvl, that way there is no wasted useless feat, waste nothing and you are well on your way to create a super character. It all boils down to knowing the ins and outs of the D&D system really. Perfection in character creation is what I´ve achieved with the cleric/pally, monk and sorcerer (not Shianti the evil halfling though he was close) but by the time I created a "perfect" build (it is possible !) I had made a lot of bad characters, not bad, but not perfect. Once you get into it, you´ll be getting crazy ideas for stuff to try out, and then do it and find out what works and what not. I think this was something that kept me coming back for a while, you know you are succeeding when you are ALWAYS the last party member standing in any fight, even more so when you win it singlehandedly and resurrect the entire party. You will also learn to get (at least moderately) annoyed with n00bs that have no idea what they are doing, or you´ll learn to love them /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif . There is so much on character creation I could mention, another thing is take into account the items available in the mod you are playing and create a character for an item set (again with MAX stats in mind). Jeez, I can go on and on, I thought I´d forgotten all this stuff. One more thing: With skills and feats, pay close attention to what skills/feats you can get with each class, I mean CLOSE attention. And also, skill points save between lvls so if you don´t use all your skill points at level 3 level up, they will be saved untill your next one. For example you can save 20 skill points and then at level 20 get one level rogue and put an instant 20 in use magic device skill, just an example, but you see what I mean.

thanks for the helpful tips. i'm only playing the oc at the moment, and not expecting to play the expansion packs any time soon. just wondering how many lvls of paladin should i take? i really wanted to start out with a character that was strictly a cleric, but decided to take a couple lvls of paladin or fighter because of my ass getting kicked trying to do things solo. anyways my character is lvl4 cleric/ lvl 2 paladin. my stats are: str14, dex8, con14, int10, wis16, cha14. i haven't decided where to put my extra attribute point yet. i was thinking either wisdom or charisma. as for my skills, i'm just pumping it into heal, concentration, and persuasion(just for the oc). I have also taken power attack as a feat. i'm not entirely sure that was a good idea. any suggestions?

Hmm... I don´t really want to give you advice, it´s been quite a while since I played NWN. I think you need at least 19 wis to get access to all spells ? And you shouldn´t have bothered with charisma, it´s only for turn undead which is useless at higher levels, however, as you take paladin lvl you will get the charisma bonus added to your saving throws so it´s not completely wasted, but higher str would have been more useful if you ask me. You only need one level paladin, because the biggest reason to get paladin is to be able to get the +3 attack bonus from holy avenger (not everyone knows that /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) and power attack is OF COURSE for the cleave feat /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif . You sound new at this, but don´t worry, it took me a lot of playing to build the really great characters, you´ll learn what works and what doesn´t, but try to plan more ahead when building them. Your build is flawed, but not at all useless, yet. By the way, you are a cleric, use bless+aid and divine power spells if you want to fight, especially divine power ABUSE it, it gives you the attack bonus of a fighter. Also sumons can help if you´re soloing, they may not kill anything, but they can take hits for you.

On a sidenote I just picked up star wars knights of the old republic, and its great fun !! D20 system+ star wars (I´m a longtime, almost lifetime fan, not I don´t dress up as Obi /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) = great. Got a real nice Jedi consular/scout going, using 2 lightsabers, it´s really cool. The system is also a lot more simple than in NWN (that mean less feats/skills to choose from etc) I recommend it if I like roleplay and SW. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Did u like Hordes of Underdark?

I hope there will be a new expansion...
Maybe with new prestiges (from Oriental adventures...)... After all there are unlimited possibilities. But who knows?
One of my fave builds is wizard-red dragon disciple.
    And yours?
