Get a Western Digital and order from NewEgg.

I have been using Western Digital Element brand drives for the last six years and have yet to have any data loss or corruption. Six full years of perfect function through years of cold weather and transportation.

No matter what I would recommend backing up your drives twice over and possibly storing one outside of your house. If you really need to back up files safely or care a lot about your music/movie/game collection take tons of measures. Nothing is worse than permanently losing data.

I keep everything backed up three times over and keep one backup in my apartment in NYC that I update once a month when I go to the city. Of course I work in media production so this might be overkill for some.

I own the WD model you posted Dennis. I got it about a month ago and I'm happy with it.

I was also eyeing the model with wasUSB/E-Sata/Firewire when I was shopping but it was way more expensive then what I was willing to spend.

    Thanks for the replies guys!!!
It looks like WD is much worth and reliable.

I'm wondering the temperature of this WD during working, is that too hot?? I read some article about this WD hard drive was overheating before. Btw, is it 8MB or 16MB buffer??

Dennis I also own that 1TB WD model... absolutely fucking love it. I really wish I bought 2 of them. I caught one on sale for about $105.00. Really easy to setup... quiet, doesn't seem to have heating problems.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Edit:

Looks like you were posting at the same time I was posting; any I have had this drive for about 2 months now and it's been on and plugged in the whole time. I just checked the temperature and it's barely warm. Really the only place I feel heat coming from it is near the fan and that's to be expected since it's blowing out all of the hot air.

Avoid seagate. A few years ago before a deployment I had bought both a western digital external and a seagate external, and loaded them both up.

The western digital still works to this day, however the seagate one crapped out in less than a year's time.

    I got my 1tb today!!!
    It's so quiet!!
But too bad there is no switch to turn it off, and I won't keep the power on coz I only use to storage my movies.

That portable one is really beautiful!!! I'm looking for it but the thing is that I already have a "simpletech" from Costco last year and until now 160G is pretty enough for me~~

    WDTV + Passport = AWESOME!!!

I'm just saying WD 1TB hard drive is awesome!!
I'll go get one more when I have a chance!!

The link I post, that guy uses "WDTV + WD 1TB Storage + LevelOne USB-0201" to reach a giga transmission. So he can read his files through the "DLNA Media Server".

I believe you are gonna love it!!!!!!!!!!
The firmware is finally on 1.02.07.

I have one extra firmare which is based on 1.02.07 but you can adjust the subtitle size up to 80. I prefer this one.
I'm going to find a link for you~~
