Anyone else with the 2P syndrome?

I knew that with Akira I'm so much weaker when playing on the 2P side than on the 1P side. I was aware of this weakness and I started to work on it. It got better. However, I can't double palm for shit when I'm the 2P side. Other moves are a bit awkward too (overhead smash, youshi senrin), but nothing compared to the double palm.

Is anybody else experiencing this? Are there quick remedies other than practice practie practice?

    Yeah................Practice,Practice,Practice and More practice.

You should never have problems on any side period.

back before I got reasonably comfortable on both sides I would reverse the way I buffered the double palm based on which side I was on; it was probably counter-productive in the long run but it worked pretty well.

No quick remedies I'm afraid. You will develop the skill eventually, provided you put the time in to practice.

Practice combos and commands from the 2P side in training mode, and play in Quest mode on 2P side for match experience.

Back in the PS2 VF4 days, my part-time Akira would have problems buffering /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif after either hit or guarding an oppt. attack from the 2P side. I just wasn't fast enough. But after leaving the controller plugged into the 2P side for weeks or more, and sticking to the above routine (training/quest practice on 2P side) I eventually got it.

Same thing I did. Only my "side" begins to switch when I do this. I get really good at 2p, then when I'm back on 1p I don't know wth I'm doing anymore. I figured out why though... I hold the stick differently depending on which side I'm on! After realizing this, if I ever feel like one side is getting weaker, I immediately switch to that side, and force my hand into the stick position (I memorized exactly how it is, in case this happens mid match).

Only thing that is a struggle from P2 side for me now is double Palm, i'll get there eventually just gotta keep practicing it.

I've really thought about it. I mean, if you can do -><- for one attack and <--> for another on one side. too me it just makes sense if you can do it the opposite as well. Don't know what double palm input is since I never tried akira though. Same with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gifstuff. Maybe I'll start thinking about it now. You've ruined me! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

It is really an Akira thing for me. My Pai is pretty much double-sided, which could be possibly the reason to make her my primary character, at least on Live (if I ever get it)...

Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

For me it's definitely an Akira thing I don't struggle with any other characters moves, though I do hear some Goh players find Basara from P2 side difficult....

I don't think anyone here is just talking about Double Palm on it's own ( I know i'm not ). It's in combos that it becomes difficult.... you have to input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ( opposite directions for P2 side) so your buffering in the crouch dash too, being able to do it from both sides takes practice

    Yatta!

I did manage to get it, say 60% consistency for the moment. The reason for getting in wrong is that I was pressing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif when pressing backwards instead of forward, I realised that having a look at the log of the inputs...

I have it to a degree, but I think it's more due to the Hori stick's design than anything else. I've never had a problem shifting from the 1P side to the 2P side in any other game. And I spend just as much time in the Dojo/Quest mode practicing my combos, moves, and setups from the 2P side as I do the 1P side. Online, I almost ALWAYS join a session rather than create one.

    However, I will admit that I find it near-impossible to input moves like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif on the 2P side.

I only seem to have problems with diagonal movements on the 2P-side. That means that every move with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif (seen from 2P) is affected. But it's getting much better now.

Off-topic: KingZeal, what did you do about your EX2 now (as it also malfunctioned just like mine)?

I'm gonna mod my EX2 with Sanwa parts. Did you manage to buy an already modded EX2 now?

I took the lazy bastard's way out. I bought a new one. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I still have my old one, and I'm trying to find a way to restore/improve it. If the new one has the same problem, the retailer has promised to replace it.

I have no problem with it in 3D games, but doing SRK from the 2P side is pretty difficult for me.

Yes, I will. Though my knowledge regarding soldering etc. isn't this high, it is more than do-able. As well, it is not necessary to replace the whole joystick unit. Merely replacing the restrictor for a Sanwa 8-way one solves all the problems with the Joystick itself. And exchanging the buttons for Sanwa ones won't prove to be a challenge. I will post detailed step-by-step instructions on my blog (with pics) and here (if wished) later (w/o technical terminology, etc.).

Meanwhile have a look here: http://www.championedition.com/?p=17

    Sry that it's off-topic.

I have so much trouble doing Jeff's b,df+P+K on 2P side. Maybe it has to do with how I hold the sticks? Basically for me to do b,df I need to do ub, hold df.Maybe it has something to do with the hyori sticks being rectangular instead of circular.

As far as I know there are three popular ways of holding the joystick:

    The Beat Knuckle

    The Door Knob

    The Wine Drinker
