Anyone know why Eileen is supposedly good?

so i started the game with lau, just to learn all of the appropriate basics and ways of countering moves. i figured hes a good beginner character to use because he can dish out quite a bit of dmg w/o worrying about execution (pppk madness, or pp<-pp). lau can also dish out the pressure pretty easily imo, better than most characters.

after using lau to "train" and learn basic movesets from everyone else ive decided to move on to someone new.

im tryin to pick up eileen and its not clicking for me yet. quite honestly she reminds me of shun: low risk, low reward.

is it her oki game (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif)? that makes her good? or is it ability to evade so easily? or is it really just string mixup? (appears easily sidesteppable) or just that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on frame adv?

are there certain moves that seem to give her huge adv?

From where I stand with Eileen right now, a beginner, I can tell that she has alot of damage potential. Not only from punishment, but from evading, wari and stun setups aswell.

She has alot of blows that when landed as a counter they connect for alot of damage (P+K, 6P+K, 33P+K), this is something I concider a major strength because with the correct spacing landing a counterblow isn't that hard at all.

Her throwing game may not be the strongest, but I think it works quite well for her HCB, 3 and 6 grabs all work well for me and two of those gives me the chance to work some mindgames, which I believe is what she's all about.

She has alot of good tools aswell to keep the opponent from trying to get too offensive (Sabakis, evasive moves), and she has tools to keep them from being too defensive aswell (Wari, 46P+K, sweeps), she quite simply has the tools to control the match.

The problem I've found with her though is that you really need to find that opening and keep the pressure on to be in control of the match, and with the amount of mixups she has the opponent is in for alot of guessing if they want to turn the match in their favour again.

She's not without weaknesses though, she's not very strong against evades and her Wari mixups can be quite risky if the opponent knows what's coming.

This is what Eileen is from my point of view, and I still have massive amounts to learn about her.

No she's not a powerhouse like lau. He does massive dmg off little work. Though at higher lvl play those big moves of his turn into a liability. Eileen is about finesse. You use her cancelation moves coupled with her string mixups along with her PK to beat people. One move you can abuse is her 6P+K,236P+K,P+G.

Until your opponent catches on and starts getting free juggles of of your 236P+K.

Once that happens you start finishing the 6P+K,P or do her 6P+K,214K. That'll help freeze them up from fear of the mix ups. Like you said eileen is all about mind games. You do things untill your opponent responds correctly.

I use her Wari mix ups according to how my opponent reacts to the situation.

Mixing in 6p+k,214p to make them sit still and not want to SS your mix ups. Most people will DIE before getting hit by the 214k wari mix up (knows how Eileen plays I suppose), so you can virtually whore 236k (gives +1) and keep them guessing with mix ups like they said.

    Lol....

DoA players who have choosen Eileen list:

    NinjaCW
    Freyja
    SweeptheLeg
    EscapingJail

Eileen is the new DoA character! lol lol lol

I just think getting a fat ass combo off MC/Stagger 66P is soooo unjusitified. Oh and 46P and her low kick are some cheap shit hahahaha.

I was playing against my friend yesterday (offline), once they know the character it gets hard to get that combo off the stagger, cause they are THAT afraid of that option. Only stagger I could get it off of was 214k stagger and he blocked/SS 90% of the time, so I ended up using that move as a "surprise".

It worked at first because he didn't know but after about the 3rd match and he noticed his life bar was at stake. But if they are scared of that attack man it gets FUN for Eileen.

I only played DoA for 4 months -- I played SC2 for much longer. I'd rather be a "soul calibur player". /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm sorry, but if you've played DoA4, even if it's just once, you'll be labeled a DOA player forever /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

haha I started on super street fighter 2 then virtua fighter but didn't get kinda good at virtua fighter till vf4 with that killer tutorial. I feel like if I had better competition when i was younger I would have been a good sf player but sadly never had anyone to play. I just drifted from one Fighting game to the next. Now I can't play sf well enough to beat people at high lvl play but I can do well at 3d fighters.

Long story short I'm an ex-tekken4/5 player

Is this some kind of random unusual trend? Do DOA and Eileen actually have a connection? Or is this just something that was randomly brought up? Makes me wonder, lol.

So, Sweep, officially confirmed DOA player, how about some of that DOA? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Oh, Tricky's a DOA player, too. It's been confirmed, awesome.

Eileen wasn't exactly up there as one of the first characters for me to fool around with. And I haven't fooled around with her yet. But I may have to try her out and see what all the fuss is about.

All that I see that she has going for her is the whole monkey thing, and that she seems nimble. Otherwise, she just seems like your normal little girl. Not exactly a kick-ass, calm and collected, and interesting character (at least not yet).

And yes, I do believe the whole "If you dislike the character, you won't enjoy playing him/her." Kinda hard in this game tho, because there's not many ways to judge a character besides fighting style.

Eileen doesn't need to keep pressure really, she's one of the best turtle characters in the game.

Fast ARM, and fast long range attacks like PP6P and 6K makes her very difficult to deal with when she turtles at distance.

The stregth of Eileen is her fast P speed, alot of usable moves with good properties such as half/full circulars, sabaki's, safe launchers.

Although her throws are a bit weak, but there are alot of unpredictable throwing opportunities for her.

I think the people that don't think she is strong haven't really seen her moveset put to full use. She's mostly low risk, and high reward, and flexible enough to play very defensive, or pressure with speed and variety.

To be honest with you, I've been playing with Eileen since I purchased the game and I don't find her to be particularly strong. Granted, she has some pretty nice moves but her mix-up game can become fairly predictable. And if you're playing against someone who knows how to fuzzy guard, you're going to have a tough time.

I'm really not knocking her, because I honestly enjoy using her. But the whole "Eileen is an extra good character" conversation is a little stale to me. IMO, between all her rolls, hops, and flips she's just fun to play with--that's it. If you take time to find uses for all her moves, only then does she become rewarding to play with.

Fuzzy guard... it means you are not using OM, or her cancels well enough. You might just try turtling against defensive players if you don't know how to break down the fuzzy.

Since any character can fuzzy guard, saying that means every character is useless when you play against someone who can fuzzy guard. In fact, Eileen's long strings and unpredictability can make things easier into forcing the opponent into making mistakes.

Saying that she's good doesn't mean just anyone can pick her up and win with no effort, you have to work to win still.
