Aoi Top 15 Moves

    It's really tough to pare down to 10 moves for Aoi as she relies on a wider variety of attacks to be successful. So I will list 15 instead. Here's my view on Aoi's top 15 moves:

    As a default should always be in your regular rotation.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif strings
    I will cheat here a bit and just list her strings in general. Aoi has /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (which is probably her best string, given that the two mid elbows and the fact that you can cancel them); and also has /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif for a ghetto mix-up. Try also canceling the sweep and low throwing instead. Also, don't forget to use just one /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif to interrupt and initiate a guessing game. Use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif for counter damage at +12.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Even though her elbow options have been significantly weakened since VF5, it is still one of her staple attacks. I would say do only the elbow the majority of time and definitely tack on the follow-up /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if the elbow hits. You want to continue on if the elbow is guarded perhaps 1/5 times. If you do decide to cancel the elbow, mix up between throwing (hopefully 0-frame) and attacking (I recommend /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif).

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    This is a great poking attack since it's now safe in VF5. It has better range than /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif but lower damage potential. It beats low punch too in certain situations.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    Sidekick with great distance. Think of this as Aoi's primary mid-distance attack.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    Aoi's best way of getting high damage off normal hit, and it also hops over low attacks as well. However, Aoi can be punished if blocked.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    16 frames, safe, and good damage on counter. Use this when you have advantage and want to take damage.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Another good way for Aoi to get good damage on counter, and you can use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as a poking tool too. Be sure to hit check the first attack--if it counters and staggers, continue on but if it does not I would recommend stopping and going for defensive measures (primarily fuzzy guarding, some ETEG).

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Aoi's primary long-distance attack. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is safe and relatively fast. I would use only the first attack the majority of the time (1/10) on block, but would tack on the follow-up /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif on normal hit and stagger. On counter hit, Aoi can typically go for a combo (e.g. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif) for good damage.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    You can use this attack a lot more now because it is safe on block. Aoi sabakis high and mid punches and elbows for great damage.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    Sweep that can go into her inashi stance with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. It can also be canceled for some mind games.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    You can follow-up with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif most of the time on a successful reversal, but use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if your timing is not that great.

    270b /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    Her best throw. Tack on a ground attack after.

    270f /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    Her second best throw, link with HCF /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    I believe in keeping three throws top of mind. Go for either a ground attack or ground throw after.


    Other moves worth using:

    Not many opponents will escape this throw.

    Decent poking tool from low and now the third hit is safe on block. Will be used a lot in combos.

    Aoi moves backward before attacking for high damage potential. Good to use after a QR/TR to surprise opponents, or at high disadvantage situations.

    Full circular, though high.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    Quick special high attack that will stagger on hit. Follow up with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif if far and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif if close. If the opponent recovers quickly dash up and throw.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Good attack with which to close distance, can be canceled, and safe.

    This move sabaki mid kicks for great damage, but also works as a counter tool since it'll crumple the opponents.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Hit check that the first attack hits counter and go for the second. This also combos on normal hit. However, if blocked Aoi is in a punishable situation. Also, if the first hits on normal Aoi is at a disadvantage; given that Aoi is back turned after the first hi, this means it's difficult to use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as a poking tool. If you're looking for a counter, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is better.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    If you want to knock the opponent down with a quick attack.

    Not a bad way to get damage e.g. after successfully evading an attack.

    13 frame special mid attack to interrupt opponents.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on counter, but she has better alternatives.

    I've never been able to sabaki with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif so when does an opponent use a SK? Mid range, player dependent(duh, yet)? That takes yomi I don't have. Would /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif work better instead? How is the hit-throw anyway? Is it easy like SPOD or WTF?

    What are Aoi's best options after a DM? her DM P+K is bad because it has no range and her df/uf+P+K hits high.

    Not much I'm afraid...probably DM (stop) then throw, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if you evaded a slower recovering move.

    I've been playing Aoi against the CPU recently and have come to the conclusion that her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is probably her best new move. It is safe because you can hit check the first attack, it is very high damage on counter (65+ with combo), and you can still play mind games with the follow-up attack. All in all her best new move. Shame though that she also has a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif attack that prevents her from using this move in an instant fashion a la Kage's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

    For whatever reason, my slow fingers can't execute any command instantaneously with more than 2 inputs. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, naw. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif no can do. Ditto /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif. For me 2 inputs is the limit for instant execution.

    I wonder if you could use back crouchdash to possible make it instant?

    Like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, I can sort of do modified double palms pretty fast this way (makes a surprise spacing tool). Maybe that might work. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    Well, personally I find /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif both easier, faster and more efficient then going /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif*neutral*/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif (which when you think about it, is also three inputs).

    I have a question that I'm sure has been covered before. I was playing Dissmaster a few weeks ago, and he eventually started escaping just about every single one of my ground throws, and multi-throws. I fully understand that it isn't in an Aoi player's best interest to rely on these too heavily. But, Diss seemed to think that multiple throw escape (well, double TE's in this case) were allowing him to escape both tactics consistently.

    I was always lead to believe it was a 50/50 guess, but I can't imagine that I was that unlucky; as I was constantly mixing up the motions for both the ground throws and multi's, and he was escaping every time! If you can double throw escape them, why even bother! They shouldn't even be a part of her arsenal. Are these still a 50/50 guess in VF5? I'm nearly convinced that it isn't. If it is though, then the law of averages is definitely not on my side :/.

    You can't input multiple escapes in those cases, so it's still a 50/50 guess.

    Unless your playing back to back setup some players can see what direction your inputting in a side to side setup :/,
    but then you can always learn the techniques to mask your inputs /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    You need to try to mindfuck your opponent if you're going to use ground throws. Learn how he thinks (example):

    If you attempt /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and he breaks it, go for it again. If he breaks it, do it again, as odds are he is going to try to break /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif this time around (that is, if he thinks like that). Once you land one ground throw, I've noticed it is easier to apply the guesswork.

    Of course, sometimes it is better to be conservative and go for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

    Still a 50/50...wow, that was some freakishly bad luck a few weeks ago then. Either that, or he was totally in my head that day (maybe a combination of the 2) to the point where I was also believing that perhaps they are multiple throw escapable/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif.

    I guess I have to disagree with Myke here; I think that they are both escapeable. I would like to take credit for my awesome guessing ability, but I wasn't guessing. When you had a free ground grab, I would wiggle the stick furiously between /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif never letting it go back to neutral, while hitting /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif constantly.

    With those wack multi-throws I would wiggle it between /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif while hitting /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

    The sheer number of throws I escaped lead me to believe that they can all be escaped. Or maybe Dissmaster just has special properties. My Lau can transcend space, time, and the previously held theories on the limits of total pwnage...
