Arcadia (Mar 04) Combos

    More combos from the latest issue. I've tried to include more detail in the notes, so if there are any errors let me know.

    Akira
    vs Lei, Lion, Goh, Brad, Kage, Open stance
    [2_][6][P]+[K] - [P] - [3][3][P] - [6][6][K][K] (79 pts)
    - vs Lei it must be a crouching minor counter hit and you need a 1-frame delay on the Yoho ([3][3][P])
    - vs Lion works on normal hit, no delay needed
    - vs Goh, Brad, Kage you need a 1-frame delay on the [P] (so you can enter it as [4][4][P] or [6][6][P]+[K]).
    - The first [K] of the [6][6][K][K] hits OTG so it's possible for them to do just recovery.
    - this combo was found by Hanabi Lei, so is called the Hanabi combo /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Jacky
    up to Lion, Closed stance, counter hit
    [6][K] - [4][K][K] - [3][3][P] (77 pts)
    - Lion can do just recovery

    Lau
    vs Pai, Sarah, normal or counter hit, Open stance
    [4][6][P] - [6_][P] - [3_][P][P][4][P] (59 pts)
    - vs Pai you need a 1-frame delay on the [3_][P]
    - vs Sarah, no delays needed

    Wolf
    vs Light Weights (except Aoi), and Lion, Closed stance
    [4][P] - [P][K][G] - [6][3][2][1][4][P][P] (?? pts)
    - vs LWs, just recovery is possible.

    Kage
    vs Aoi, Vanessa, Counter hit
    [4][4][K]+[G] - dodge to Kage's back - [2][P]+[K][K] (55 pts)
    - the dodge direction is with respect to Kage's stance before he turns around.
    - better damage than [3][K]+[G] which does 48pts.
    - 1pt less damage than the big down attack which is 31+25=56pts
    - Vanessa can do just recovery


    Lion
    vs Brad
    [2_][6][P]+[G] - fwd dash [2][P] - [P] - [P][P][2][P] (70pts)
    - max damage vs Brad

    Shun
    vs Jeffry, Counter hit, Open stance
    [2_][3][P] - [6][P][P][K] (73pts)
    - maniac combo, is 5pts better than the standard [2][P] - [1][P][K] followup.

    Goh
    vs Heavy Weights, Counter hit
    [4][6][K] - [3][3] - [P] - [4][P] (53 pts)
    - You need the crouch dash to close the distance and the timing of the [P] is very important. Using [6][6] to dash is risky as you might do the [6][6][P] attack by mistake, and you may not have time to G cancel the dash.
    - Since it ends with the [4][P] slam, you have a chance for a ground throw or a small down attack for more damage if they don't instant recover.

    vs Aoi, Pai, Closed stance, Counter hit
    [4][6][P] - [P] - [4][P]+[K] - [K] (62 pts)
    - You need a small delay on the [P].
    - Just Recovery possible but still worth going for.
    - This combo can work against Sarah too, but it'll be a bound combo so she it's possible to do instant recovery.

    it's quite amazing that even today new combos are being discovered... that wolf one is totally oblivious to me, i will try that tonight.. i think i've seen some of those akira ones tho.

    While this is the highest damage Brad combo that's guaranteed, you might as well do [2_][6][P]+[G] -> dash -> [2][P] --> [P] --> [6][3][P], [P] for 69 pts, and if they don't tech (which is kind of hard to do), you can go for a down attack for an additionaly 6 - 12 pts. Bringing the combo to 75 - 81 pts total. That's worth risking the extra 1 pt damage incase they happen to tech it. You can do it for Kage and Lei too, but since they have a guaranteed max damage of 77 pts by doing [6]+[K],[K], the risk isn't as good.

    UPDATE:

    the wolf combo is 56 normal, 66 MC btw (off the top of my head?).. it's quite easy to do but you have to hold [6_] with the high P, after that, just cancel the K and screw hook pretty fast.. the best place to do it is after the catch ~ push since u have all the time to input the commands right with a 50% chance of wrong stance as your only fall.. the rest of the time it's quite fiddly to input into your game imo.

    i also figured that you can actually do [4]+[P]. [6_][P], [4]+[P] on lights closed stance (not sure about mids yet) it's just that it's easier to time than the Low P version for the people who dont know about this.

    i'm pretty sure i'm chattin old news tho ^___^

    u can do it since Ver C...n it was so good in the old days...coz u can pick em up n ring em out XD

    from memory, u can even do it on akira in Ver C.

    all i know is, in evo...i systematically removed that particular combo outta my head.

    now that u mentioned it, prolly is low p too....

    I think it's meant to be [2_][3]+[P]. If not then it's the Chouwan, and no one would dare miss print that move! Hehe, just tryin' ta help.

    Has anyone tried this combo? The combo's got confirmed on a counter hit with 93 damage, but I haven't got any success on normal hit so far. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

    *WOW* i should try that sometime. who would've thought such an impossible combination could ever connect.

    -but just cuz the topic has been brought upalready, i am hoping sega "doesn't fix" these combos in FT, because most of them push the limits of gravity to its gravity /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

    Seems a little reaching to include combos that can be stopped with just recovery. Or are they saying the first [K] of the [6][6][K][K] always hits OTG and you can only just recover against the second [K]?

    Akira - On Kage, normal hit, you can end the combo with double palm to do 80pts and kage cannot do just recovery to avoid the double palm(i think). Doing the same combo on Goh and ending with double palm, the damage is 77 instead(if i remember correctly) so its better to do f,f+kk.

    I can do the combo(normal hit) consistantly on all characters except Lion??? Suppose to be easier as I dont have to do the 1 frame delay???

    Anyway, thanks Myke. Suddenly Akira became interesting again.

    I tried this out in some matches (too lazy for training mode these days) without any luck and decided to fuggetaboutit.

    But fellow Akira's are in trouble!!!

    I'm mystified. Vs Lion I had no difficulties...it was tight and I missed the first few I tried but after that it dialed in pretty nicely. I got it second try vs Goh & never again vs any of the guys who require a delay.

    I'll go for it in matches...what the hell...there's a Lion in my group. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Well, the thing is, the combo is probably worth going for more often than not since the timing required for the just recovery is quite strict.

    Another example is the popular Akira open-stance combo ([4][6][P] - [2][P] - Yoho - DbPm) which can be stopped with just recovery but I've rarely seen people successfully stop it in movies.

    an error in my statement about the wolf combo just to quickly correct, it's impossible to do after the catch ~ push, the reason why is that for some reason wolf always ends open stance no matter which way you start. it's gonna be a little more difficult to include into standard wolf games seeing as the combo's gotta be pulld off pretty much with no delays. it's a good starting setup tho, b+p has always been good with reach & speed.

    i get the feeling sega was just trying to get on people's nerves,... /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
