Arcadia No. 96 - Virtua Fighter 5R Feature

There's a two page feature for VF5R in the latest Arcadia magazine (May issue, no. 96)

I'm at work right now so I can't translate the entire interview or take photos/scans to help out Myke/noodalls translate, but the previous Jacky picture with Akira is definitely the side guard, as they have another picture of Wolf sideguarding Jeffry's knee (ed. note - fuck Jeffry's knee)

The stages also seem to be remixed a bit. There's a screenshot of what seems to be Shun's stage, but now instead of an open ring it's a low wall ring. The background has also changed so it doesn't look like early morning with the mist, but mid-afternoon with blue skies. BLUE SKIES! One thing they point out is that the stages will be remixed, and depending on the round, there will be open walls or closed walls (Not sure I'm reading this right, I just skimmed through it). So, round 1 might be the high walls and then round 2 might be the low walls that you can launch people over. Sounds interesting if what I'm reading is correct.

There's a SF4 loketest this weekend so I don't know if I'll get to translating the entire interview but hopefully I can do a point by point summary of it.

Great news, and I'm definitely looking forward to hearing anything else new about VF5:R! ^_^

Did you say BLUE SKIES? I'm sold already.

The stage variation thing would be cool. It could stop those people who intentionally go for ring outs from only picking open stages.

I'm down for the stages changing between rounds, but even if they don't, I'm really happy to hear there's changes to them as it is, just to add to the variety and visuals.

Man, my friends and I were just saying tonight we really wanted VF5:R info, and you delivered haha. Thanks man, look forward to the writeup.

The stage mixing sounds very cool. I like the whole "side turned" blocking animation concept, it gives the game more depth. Can't WAIT!

i don't like the stage changing from round to round. Stupid idea if you ask me.

Just remove half fences and be done with it.

Bleh. Unless they bring back Akira's VF4 stage (with original music!!!!) I can never be happy with whatever they decide to do with the stages.

    Bring it back!!!!

Can't wait to see details on this side guard shit. It'll be great to be read in it while never gaining access to VF5:R. haha

Why is it a stupid idea? I was actually thinking of the idea about 1 day before the article hit. That way, when you pick a random stage, someone doesn't have the advantage for the entire match by being able to ring you out really easily. The next round, you may get walls, where you have a better advantage. Then you might get a half wall stage which saves you from some vicious wall juggles by someone like Wolf. Seems like it balances out everything and forces you to rethink strategy from round to round.

I never thought about it that way either. But from what you said I can definatly see the stage changes being a good thing. I'm more excited for the soundtrack remixes (if any) and maybe some scene changes (day and night maybe?).

It's a potentially stupid idea because it defeats the whole purpose of stage select. Eye candy aside, size and wall state are the only differences between stages. People choose stages specifically for their properties, and changing those up between rounds just makes any choice pointless.

Granted, there's no information on the how or what for changing between rounds. If it's random, or occurs in every stage, then it's stupid.

I just donĀ“t like the idea of the stage changing each round. Like Shuns raft, 1st round it has no walls, 2nd round high walls, 3rd round low walls. Just looks stupid if you ask me.

VF always had the ring out risk, deal with it.

Reno, please, for the love of God, put this thread out of its misery and translate the article! Or at least the bit about the stages.

BTW, I don't know if you know but there was already a VF5R thread on the Arcadia Article you speak of, which got locked on the provision that we save pages and pages of speculation until we actually have something concrete! I wonder how many pages we'll get here before it's either locked or we get some info we don't already know!

<s>Any word on the weapons and FPS MODE?!?!?!?! I HERD Somewhere that they're making it like Tekken and adding Wa~ha~cky stuff to spice up the game. Like they're replacing Jeffry with a Bipedal rhinoceros, so it is safe to say: all characters will get a 6th costume that is an anananimal that fits their personality. I also HERD that they're including astrology in the game, and based on the character's sign, the better/worse they do depending what time of year it is... of course that could be perceived to be true and just be a coincidence but we need to remain faithful to ideas that are thousands of years old and can still explain the workings of the universe! I BELIEVE that you can buy a vehicle of your choice in VF5:R and then with your character owning will affect your lose/win quotes as well as affect the stage. Yeah! I saw a vid. Agape bought the 18 wheeler, and his Goh during the intro drove at the stage really fast and did a sharp turn making the truck fall on it's side on the stage. Then his Goh crawled out all bloody and began to speak in a southern drawl (showing the new voice replacement items!) and said something to the effect of, "Wooooooewweeee! Dat wuz a clothez won!" and for the rest of the match, the truck served as a wall, so I think this is what is meant by "random wall shit."

If you show the article to any decently populated anime board (like HongFire.com), there'll be plenty of people who can read it.

I didn't find anything particularly good about the VF4 soundtrack, it went downhill after VF3 - and Evo's was excruciatingly bad.
