I'm tired of ppl with no martial experience on this board ( just look at the movelist names ). Akira's style is indeed chinese and its a northern style known as Bagua or Pa Kua Chan

This is my error on the original VF2 FAQ. Akira's style is actually Bajiquan or 8 Extremes Fist. Not Baguazhang. Full name of this style is "kaimen baji quan" ("Fist of Opening Gates of Eight Limits"), another name - "Yueshan baji quan" ("Yueshan's Fist of Eight Limits"). Check this for details. BTW, FYI the style is classified as a style with Muslim influence. Over here are pics of a real life practitioner. Sure looks very Akira. Also, please go to bajimen for detailed look on the last great master of bajiquan and his technique. The modern form of baji is developed by this master. Most of Akira's moves are from him. The spear technique is also used in baji and that explains "dragon lance/spear". Spear training in baji enhances empty hand techniques.

Lion's Mantis (nycat is gonna love this /versus/images/icons/smile.gif ) is Tanglangquan. Info can be found here. Another link for nycat to add to the Lion page /versus/images/icons/wink.gif.

If you want to search more, this where to look.

Thanks a lot everyone, I learned a lot about characters and attitudes and stuff...

And now I'm going to pick up Aoi. (a gutton for punishment, is what I am...)

gah, it's fascinating and all, but let's put this stuff in general. VF's fun to watch, but we all know it's as close to real martial arts as WWF.
