Are you happy with the Hori Stick?

I'm not really that happy with it.

Its too light, and the stick feels very loose to me. I have a lot of trouble dashing or evading effectively with it. The buttons aren't too hot either, but they get the job done. Is it just me? I'm really hoping that someone makes another stick out there, I still can't believe that there are no other options for the 360. Also how do you not make this thing wireless?!

For VF I am perfectly happy with this stick. I would never use it for SF though and don't plan to. VF is a tap input game and being that I was never really VF hardcore the fact that this stick resembles the VF cabinets is fine with me. I am playing my best VF ever on this thing and I don't know if I would be any better with any other stick. The moves I am going for are coming out, which is all I can ask for in a stick. Of course they may be the wrong moves I am choosing but it's not the sticks fault when I am losing.

Conversely I could never use a SF stick for VF which is why I got this one. If I can't get my MAS modded for the 360 I will getting the Arcade In A Box stick. Pricey but worth it for SF.

I don't have too much in the way of problems with it myself, but I haven't spent much time on a stick with VF so it's probably just me. I do notice things like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif naturally wanting to hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif while it re-centers itself, but that may just be some subconscious Capcom residue Ouija-ing it's way into my inputs.

As far as the wireless thing goes... unless Microsoft makes the stick, don't hold your breath. The whole proprietary wireless technology thing has been causing problems for 360 peripherals from the get go. Microsoft forces you to use only their products for wireless stuff I believe, although there is the new exception in the case of the Guitar Hero 3 controller, but that was apparently a huge licensing ordeal.

Ah I didn't know it was a proprietary thing... very silly.

The moves come out ok for the most part, its mostly evades and dashes... and I just wish it was heavier. The table I set it on is made of glass so I could potentially hook up some suction cups to it or something. What is this "Arcade stick in a box" thing youa re refering to?

I have no problems at all with evades acttually. and i get diagonals without problems either. Im pretty haooy with it as a newbie but I do see what others mean when they give it bad reviews.

Im looking to get a custum sanwa stick made or to get a modded VSHG

Guy makes custom 360 (or whatever console) sticks and has received some very good feedback from doing so. It is slightly less expensive than a 360 MAS stick. All the components used are competition quality. If I can't get one of my other SF sticks to work on my 360 this is what I will be going with.

As for the table thing, the Hori is light enough for me to just leave it on my lap and I really just barely tap with my finger tips as opposed to my whole hand so the thing really doesn't move all that much with being anchored from the weight of my other hand. I guess it's whatever you are comfy with. I can imagine the thing would seriously suck sliding around a glass table though.

I've been happy with it, but it is my first arcade stick ever. I also hold it in my lap, seems to work much better than a table or anything. I do find two issues with it, though.

First, I suck at getting the stick back to neutral, though I never have problems with any directional inputs. I really have problems evading using the stick, though, which would probably be worse if I didn't use Aoi (gogo tenchi stance when I need to avoid a linear attack). And second, I do think the buttons could be a bit better, or perhaps more uniform. I can't tell you how many times I've done K+G, and negative edged a guard cancel when releasing the buttons because the K seems to pop up a bit faster on mine. I can resolve that by just holding down K+G for unusually long whenever I do a cancellable move, but still a bit annoying.

It's really hard to complain when all the other options out there seem to cost 3x as much. It's so much better than when I was using a normal controller.

It doesn't really slide that much.. its more that when I push left a little harder sometimes the right side of it flips up, cause there's not much more surface to it to the left after the stick itself. I haven't tried playing with it in my lap... that would feel so weird to me since I"m so used to arcades.. .but I'll give it a whirl.

  13. I don't like the button layout on those sticks....The one's on the EX2 are off tha chain nigga!!!! Just wish the Stick itself was more crisp and precise.

Also Chibiaya I bet my Akira is worse than yours...Don't feel bad.

I straight up love the hell out this Hori EX2. Namely, its not a "OMFGBATTLETANK" on my lap. I know some people prefer them, but I do not. If I ever got a custom, I would want one about the same weight, height, and layout as this EX2.

I got mine back when they first busted out online, just for VF5. Now I cannot imagine playing ANY fighter(excpet Smash, for those that call it a fighter like me. if not disregard.) without a stick.(hence why I've kinda stopped playing GGAC atm, I have no PS2 stick)

I'm not incredibly happy with the EX2 either. Apparently, it does the job, but if you have a look at the training mode with the Display Input option on, you realise how loose it is. Diagonals are rubbish, the game seems to receive a button input even when you are actually releasing your finger. I reckon that's what you get for 40 GBP...

Can anyone compare the EX2 to the VSHG? I mean, people that own both or have one and have tried the other long enough.

    cheers

I just got the VSHG, and it's a nice, solid Sanwa stick (a little bigger and heavier than the EX2). I'm actually going to have it modded for the 360 as well, so that I'll have two 360 sticks. I'm also going to swap the square gate for an octagonal gate.

I own the DOA4 stick, which is what the EX2 is, and while I like its small size, I absolutely loathe the Hori buttons. I would have modded it if I had any soldering skills. At least you can swap out the cheap Hori gate for a Sanwa gate (you will need to drill holes in the gate though) easily. It's a decent stick if you're on a budget, but it's too bad that it's a bit difficult to mod (unless you're soldering skills are up to snuff).

If you have the cash, spring for a modded or custom stick.

I'd like one with the VF layout and one with teh SF layout... but that'll be like 300 bucs total.. a bit too much.

I'm not entirely happy with the stick. I would have modded it too with Sanwa parts if I wasn't afraid of destroying it in the process...

I will be replacing the ball with a bat top though. It's the first thing that threw me off when I put my hands on it. That and the noisy stick.

Overall it doesn't have that "arcade feel" that I was hoping for...

How will you do the ball to bat top replacement? Is there a "how to" out there.. or maybe once you succesfully do it you can make a post? I'd be very interested.

The game is supposed to receive a button input when you release your fingers... it's called negative edge, and while it isn't used too much in VF, it's a feature of nearly all fighting games, and a very important technique in many of them.

I disagree about the diagonals too, but since I haven't tried too many other arcade sticks, I won't elaborate.

Some of these complaints seem directed at the design rather than the construction too. Ball top and square gate are just standard in japanese arcades. For people used to US arcades, yes it's different, and you might want to mod it... but that's an issue with lack of off the shelf competition with the EX2, to allow you buy those other styles, not really a flaw in the stick.
