Let's try to keep a running record of these Arice Point Rankings! I think it's a useful measure of balance, character interest, tourney performance, etc.

    Volume 1 (2006/08/12 -- Revision 1)

For Volume 1 results check out: http://www.local-star.com/

    For movies check out: http://www.local-star.com/movie/

    Top 3 placing --
    1st: Mukki (Akira)
    2nd: Joe (Lei Fei)
3rd: Goujiasu (Eileen), Koedo (El Blaze)

A familiar face on top, no surprise with super Lei Fei at second, and the two new characters doing very well.

    Character count --
3: Akira, Jacky, Lion, Eileen, El Blaze
    2: Lei Fei
1: Vanessa, Brad, Wolf, Kage, Sarah, Lau, Aoi, Shun, Pai, Jeffry
    0: Goh

Could this be the emerging tier list?

I really don't think so. The thing is, I believe in tiers and every fighting game has them. The thing about VF is that unlike most fighting games out there the gap between the characters in VF is very small to be noticed. In some fighting games like TEKKEN, DOA or KOF the tiers are based on what potentials the character have and what kind of damage combos they can pull. The easier the better. So there is a very big gap in the tiers on a high level of competition. While I think in VF the tiers depends on how hard or easy to use a character but when it comes to a high level of play it won't make that deference.
    BUT that's my opinion /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No. It was a 32 player tourney with 5 vacant slots from the start. Pretty hard to even assume anything based on that, better to wait for Otenami if one wants to be speculative.

To be quite frank the number of entries hasn't really changed from VF4 tourneys. But the tier list was different..

I don't think Goh would be a popular character even if he was top tier..

goh is the man!, more power to the goh users if nobody wants to use him, that just means we have waaay more potential to surprise with good strats

    Guys--

I thought we've established after much bickering in the past that
    1. There's always tiers
    2. The tiers in VF don't matter very much
    3. Player skill matters far more than character choice

Anyone who says or thinks otherwise, try taking down my Goh before you do in VF4. And if you can do that consistently, well then, my Goh sucks, try taking down my Jeffry. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway I think what's interesting is if we keep track of the Arice Point Ranking tournaments over time. I think the number of characters entered plus the results could give us a few hints on what those small differences in tiers look like among the elite players. (Which, yes, none of us reading this thread are.)

and you know that the results will most likely change over time as more tournaments take place...

And look how far its gotten me. /versus/images/graemlins/indifferent.gif

I like the changes they gave to Goh with his chop and 6p,p and the new moves are cool but he's still lacking. /versus/images/graemlins/tear.gif

I'm going to play a little bit of Goh in VF5 but I'm definetely picking up El Blaze and dare I say it ........THE NINJA! /versus/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I like the additions to Goh in 5. So far, in most of the Goh clips I've seen, people are still playing him like VF4. They don't use the new moves or [6][P][P] at all. I think when people catch on to where Goh has been upgraded, more famous players will adopt him as a secondary/primary character. When that happens, I think he'll be in the mix of things.

Thanks for the correction! I just realized that the way it's spelled is literally small Ed...does that mean Koedo is an Edo fan?

    Volume 2 (2006/08/30 -- Revision 1)

For Volume 2 results check out: http://www.local-star.com/

    For movies check out: http://www.local-star.com/movie/

    Top 3 placing --
    1st: Yanaga (Pai)
    2nd: Goujiasu (Eileen)
3rd: Mask (Jacky), Sarah Home? (Sarah)

Goujiasu again placed in the top 3--very impressive. Sarah came third, so I guess she can't be as bad as some people have whined about.

This is a Beat Tribe tournament called 2006 Pre Grand Prix with 24 entrants. However, only 12 are shown on the image and the final 12 unfortunately is not very diverse.

    Character count --
    3: Pai
    2: Eileen, Jacky, Brad,
    1: Lei Fei, Wolf, Sarah
    0: Everyone else

Could this be the emerging tier list?
