1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. Attack Range

One useful piece of information that is missing from the move lists is the horizontal range of an attack. Whether or not this attack would hit would obviously also depend on what your opponent was doing at the time, but it could still be handy to have some indication of range.

Well obviously range would be extremely hard to measure. That and there aren't many moves (perhaps none) in VF that hit beyond their visually represented range.

There must be some numbers somewhere to represent the range. The annimations are a good indication, but it would be nice to be able to see which characters have longer range attacks on average compared to those who have higher damage attacks or faster attacks and so on.

I'm assuming that the frame data for characters comes from the code and that range data might be obtained from the same source - is this correct?

The difference is you can't tell how many frames a move is by just looking at it, you have to do a bit of testing to find out which is why it's useful to just have the numbers for that on the moveslists. As for range, you can see how much range a move has by just looking at it so it's not really needed for it to be put into numbers.

    No.

The frame data is obtained from Japanese publications (magazines/books) and not directly from source code. "Range" data is not, and has never been, available.

Some things you can only learn through play experience.

Are you sure? I was skimming thru the FT Orange book the other day and saw a column I didnt recognize from the charts here at VFDC. It was between the damage and execution columns. I noticed it had small numbers for moves with small range like standing and crouching jab and large numbers for sidekicks and other longe range moves.

I cant confirm this because the book wasn't mine. If it wasnt range data, what could it be?

It's not range (that data doesn't exist). That column is the total frames for the move.

One of these days I'll add them to the vfdc cmd lists.

In all honesty, I think it's pretty useless information to have range data seeing as someone could take two seconds in training mode or one match of play and go "oh, that's how far it hits..."

Seriously it's not a big deal at all.

    That makes sense. Thanks Myke.

Thanks for the replies! I have a peculiar passion for statistics. If I could get all the stats out of VF4 then I could whack it all in a database and run some analysis. Of course, it would not offer much benefit to serious players, but it would be fun! (Well, it would keep me amused for a while, anyway...)
