Just saw this notice about an upcoming X-Box SC2 regional/national competition.

To this I say... WHAT Japanese Soul Calibur 2 players? That game's been dead as a doornail since I got here.

Then again, it's always done better at the home than at the arcade...

Make a competition for a game in Japan and you'll have players coming out of the woodworks, just for prizes. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif Hell, if they can have a competition for Boong Da Boong Da, then I am sure SC2 will be a big success.

zero, didn't super battle opera attract a large soul calibur 2 crowd? Or was it the smallest of their venues? Just wondering if you attended.

Good to see people not playing that VS crap. 2D fighters turned to shite after Street Fighter Alpha 3 IMO.

Actually, MVC2 is probably the most popular 2d fighting game among "enthusiasts" in America right now. I talked to Jason Cole (he was on the ST team that participated in SBO) the other day and he said that the organizers asked the team what games they should feature in the next SBO and they all said Marvel.

The only SBO game that has a semi-large following in America is CvS2. Hopefully that can change.

Actually, I quite like the KOF series. KOF is only 2nd to VF, and quite recently held the top spot over evo in Arcadias charts.

I've never had the chance to try the GG series, but I've been dying to. The only thing that holds me back is the lack of gaming funds because of school funds.

KOF2K2's wild success is rather bizarre, but then again I'm not any good at oldschool fighters. As cool as it would be to see Team USA completely own at Marvel, it's not gonna happen, 'cause Marvel is popular only in America.

Of course, I vote for CvS2 to be immediately burned at the stake. RCs add spice but don't remove the stupidity.

Hmm I really like SF3:3rd Strike. I suck at it (well, I can snuff most people in Denmark I guess, but that doesn*t reallz count /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif, but it's a nice game.

I saw the SC2 final in the Super Battle Opera clips. The game looks kinde dull to me. It has NOTHING of the fluidity of a good VF match.

99% of all sc players just attack. They don't believe in defending. Once in a blue moon, you'll see a guard impact move. (parry type) That is why it's dull to me.

You obviously haven't seen the French/Italians playing SC/SC2. They are the epitome of "Machi". Most will play Nightmare and capitalize on your mistakes most horrendously. American/English players have amazing trouble when trying to playagainst them, because their style is massive offense. You get blocked and offer the French frame advantage and the match is over.

replicant, I have played against the french and italians in sc. I know they play defense. What I meant was the united states players. But you cleared that up.

That's so true. Maybe it's just the people I've played against, but no one seems to understand what that Guard button is for, to say nothing about the parrying. It's just too easy to beat someone who only knows attack, attack, attack.

In fighting games it's an all to common tactic for American gamers to be purely offensive. I remember this being mentioned back when SSF2T first came out. It also should be noted that we even have a small difference in the US. West Coast guys have always been sheer offense, while East Coast has been very offensive yet they tend to have a more stable defense. Both seem to work though. We US Players also like to be more stylish than we do technical or efficient. Guess it's our ego's at work again. /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif
