Avoiding ground attacks in float combos

In many float combos posted around here, it says to hold d/f to connect with a move in the middle of a float... holding d/f right after the last move will cancel the ground attack and allow you to use the real attack.... such as Lion ([P]+[K], [3][P][P], [3][P]) to get the full cat scratch and slam, you need to hold d/f..... immediately after PK... but this is not quite the final word on avoiding ground attacks. Take a simple combo with Jeff for example... [6][K], [P], [3][K]..... knee to punch to sidekick. To pull this off two rules will help.
    1. Holding forward during a float always help with range.... try Jeff's [3][3]+[P],[P],[G],[K][K][P] without holding forward and you'll just whiff. Holding forward is crucial for tricky floats.
    2. You don't need to hold d/f specifically to avoid a ground attack, you just need to not let the stick return to neutral.

Hope this helps in some way.... (I know the holding forward is common knowledge but I don't think the ground attack stuff is.....)

Or you could just press [2] and roll it to [3]. It's what I do and it works.

Yep, that's exactly what I said. As long as you hold a direction, the move will come out right. The stick just can't return to neutral or you'll need to hold the direction too long to connect the combo (because a ground attack will come out first...)
