hold the tournament over 2 days?

    U got to be kidding.
(I don't blame you for sugesting though...it's only natura to thinkl that such a big event should take two days.)

Let me share some info with u guys.

Differ Ariake is a PRO WRESTLING (argh! fling! jump!) Arena.

Spacious, clean toilets, food + drinks , smokes, easy access...

Yamagishi rents the entire area for us VFers to have the time of our lives..beat each other into bits...

All at minimal cost to us.

He forks the rest out on his own...

And each year..he losses money...outta his own pocket. And it's a double digit figure I am talking abt here.

Yet he continues to do it yr after yr...

If we want it to be a two day event, then I think either we pay more to play...or we help him foot the bill...

Somehow, I don't think Yamagishi wants us to bear the extra cost at all.

All the things I observed him doing during the entire day (which I will mention in my journal)...

well, last time I was thankful and respected Yamagishi from what I know from Bryan.

Now, I readily bow down to Yamagishi whenever I see him!

I agree. Mr. Yamagiishi deserves the entire community of VF around the worlds respect. I have never seen a more professional, well run tournament. I had a great time at Beat-tribe, and I didnt even play. thats how awesome the event is. You can actually have a good time as a spectator.

I agree. totally fun atmosphere. We left stuff on the floor for hours and no one touched it. By the end of the night, every vending machine was sold out of stuff. People were all sprawled out sleeping on the floor and such. It was such a sight to see. All the people on the 10th anniversary dvd were there. The dude that helps out Yamagishi did some announcing as well. I talked to him a bit and he was shocked that many north americans own that dvd.

    Not only great tourney,,
but awesome attitudes there.. reminded me so much of old day gatherings ...

everyone there had a very freindly competitvie attitude..
everyone feeling eachother out and many of us learning our spot on the totem pole.
but mainly everyone there just having fun,,
giving freindly advise about techniques ,, and no one going off if they get beat and saying things like " oh you looked desperate using that throw or d+p all the time"
everyone just learned from their mistakes and candidly frustrated at their own naiveness of taking people for granted.

I love the enthusiasm that everyone had,, no one was there against eachother,, just bonding with some tough comp..

I think beat tribe helps build on this attitude.

    Re: Ryan Hart's report

Hi Myke, sorry I took so long to reply. Basically, as
far as not expecting big things from the tourney, I
already knew that the tourney was gonna be hard core
and that the very first match could be just as hard as
the grand finals so I wasnt expecting anything but
what I was saying is that I didnt like the rules of
the tourney. Im not saying I'd rather not have gone,
or that the people are lame or anything, I am just
saying that I dont like the tournament system that
they decided to use, thats all. I'm not saying I am
right and they are wrong, I am just sharing my
personal opinion only. Surely I am allowed to express
that? I am not slagging anyone off am I? There is no
point in this thread if you cant be honest. Also its
not about whether I speak Japanese or not. As I wrote
in my post, even Kyasao did not know of these rules
until the very moment it happened. I doubt my Japanese
will ever be better than his /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also as far as "saving time" goes, I dont really think
that is quicker. I think a regular team match
knockout would have been much faster and at least we
would have lost as a team that way. I'm not being
immature, I m just expressing my feeling, I said I had
a great time and everything and I meant it. It is not
an excuse for our team losing. I dont think we would
have won anyway but at least I wanted to lose as a
unit. Having a 3 team league where all teams play each
other once and then after that making the teams play
one on one playoffs takes more time. I dont know why
    they decided this system.

Anyway, I know the tournament was not made for me so I
accept whatever rules they give me with a smile. At
the time I had no problem with these rules, its only
afterwards when I actually thought about it that I
thought that maybe there could have been a better way.

Also yes, I guess you are right about my post sounding
negative. I guess this is because I only put the bad
things down and not the good things too. The truth is
that, as negative as that last post sounded, I had a
great time and I would do it all over again anytime.
The tournament was amazing, top players, amazing high
standard, versus cabs for players to have regular
challenges, merchandise on sale from previous events.
It was great, just if I only put the good stuff then
my post will look the same as everyone elses. Also
this was my 15th or so time to enter a Japanese
tournament so I really felt the difference in the
    ruling system this time.

Oh my goodness, that poor Mr.Yamagishi, he must have
the strongest lungs in the world, he was wailing at
the top of his voice (in real cool Yamagishi style /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
all day and night long. He gets top props from me
blatant, so does the venue guy that showed his face
right at the end of the event.

Also the MADDEST props ever to Adam Yuki who totally
slaughtered Inocchi (Soul) Akira (who in my opinion is
the best player in Japan / the world), that was great
to watch. I managed to beat Anii Sarah quite
consistently which was an achievement for me as I
always found his Sarah real tough before, same for
muscle Sarah too. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif One of my favourite arcade days
was the day when I beat Hanabi (Lei Fei), then beat
Yoro Kage but then lost to Yoro Kage's
    Girlfriend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(using
Kage). She was da shiznit!!! Probably the best female
    player Ive ever played.

Of course I then put in another 100 yen and beat her
(it was NOT easy, I won 3-2 no energy) but then Yoro
played again and took me off. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Myke, I wish you could have been there, I wanted to
see your Brad in action in Tokyo, maybe next time I
guess. Are you going to Evolution 2k4?

Adam> Akira. I remember him being an especially strong player against Akira. It's like Cappo> Kage ,so to speak.

Adam totally mind raped me at the last gathering. Regardless of a result of match(win or loss), I was sweating hardcore at the end of every match due to the feeling that it's so difficult to think ahead of him.

Had I not been posted to Canada for work I definitely would have been there. Maybe next time. Anyway, I plan on going to Evo2k4, and I hope lots of VFDC ppl make it as well!

Regarding your post, like you say, it was one sided with negativity and I'm sure you know how important it is to keep things balanced and in perspective. Reading your post made me think you felt you completely wasted your time, but clearly that wasn't the case!

    Later.
