My boy ghettoSHUN found an old tape containing footage from a Omaha gathering during the VF3tb days. I borrowed the tape and decided to cap a few matches to show how things were thrown down in the past. It was a treat for me to look back on my progress throughout my VF career. I think I came a long way, because boy did I suck back then. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif The best part of viewing these old vids though was remembering some of the vets that occasionally roam this board from time to time. Ice-9, shota, sumeragi( I don't know the new game you go by now) and many, many more..... All of you guys are missed dearly. Even though you are not around that much, know that Konjou Akira formerely know as Omaha Jeffry, wishes you the best. The time shared was not just about VF for me.

    Enjoy everyone!

    thanks for those.

VF2 and VF3 have some of the best memories attached to them for me. The game was such a minor concern when compared against the company I was keeping. I still watch old tapes from TB gatherings.

The retro gathering that was supposed to happen but keeps getting pushed off might eventually happen. What fun then!

    GE
and sincere thanks to whomever made the decision to open up the VFDC media area again. I know the pricetag associated can be heavy.

I agree with ya GE. In my VF career I have travel far and wide to meet some very outstanding individuals. I love the game, but the friends I make with each gathering is priceless compared to playing the game. I guess that's why with every gathering I just try to have fun and make sure others have fun by blurting out my famous one liners like "cuffus" or "harrassment", etc. There may be some out there that may think I am an ass or annoying. But I have to say that in my career as a VF player, I love everyone that I have met. I would be lying if I didn't say I find some that I have met annoying. But none the less the love is still the same. And I love this VF community the same. Compared to other communities, this one seems the most mature even though things get out of line every once in a while. But I guess it's just human nature to loose control here and there.
Once again I would like to thank Myke, Ice-9, Rich(rsw), and many others for the constant contribution to making my hobby as a gamer player one of the most pleasurable experiences of my life. Hats off to you guys, really!

Oh yea I am sure some of you are thinking "rich, why the fuck would he mention rich?" Well, I don't know rich all the much. I only met him once. I thought he was pretty good guy even though he didn't talk much. But rich and many other vets shaped this community into what it is today. Also I may be wrong, but isn't rich THE reason or PART of the reason we have #vfhome. Well if I am wrong them I am wrong. But I know he has contributed much information for us in the past so we could grow as players. That alone deserves some recognition. So thanks Rich, and anyone else that I did not mention. You know who you are. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Damn GE that gathering down memory lane you mentioned sounds like a good idea. Maybe it's something that we all could look forward to in the future.

One of the unfortunate ways you can tell that it was played on the DC version! Weird to see Hiro play Akira since I always associate him with Wolf.

'fo sho! We have the arcade boards and the set up necessary to make them run. It has always just been a question of time and people. There's a few of us still crazy enough to plug away at the older titles and I still have a complete blast when everything falls into place for such an event.

    Great clip. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Something tells me that this footage was not 1997. Maybe 1999, maybe 2000? I'm assuming that the NYC boys are playing VF3tb in non-team battle mode.

Keep in mind that VF3tb (arcade) wasn't found on North American shores until it popped up in a Detroit bowling alley in the spring of 1998. Toronto got a machine sometime that summer. The release of VF3tb on the DC was 1999...

1997 or not that was a lot of fun to watch. Good job on the editing Andy, the comments were well placed (especially on WTF and the fuzzy block scene).

keep capping whatever you find! They definately have a home here. Maybe I'll see if I can rescue some old footage myself.

even though i've only played vf2, and vf4, i dunno much about '3, but after seeing these clips i was shocked at the level of *that lovable* fluidity the characters move at.
you guyz were THAT good even back then...WOW /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

not trying to be picky here, but I think these dates are a little off. I moved to Los Angeles from NYC in the end of 1998, beginnng of 1999 (got here in January). At that time, Late Nov/Early Dec of '98, I had gotten my import DC in NYC and had been playing VF3tb at home. While the US DC version did come out later in fall of '99, I remember everyone remarking in Magazines etc that VF3 was already something of an "old" game.

I think VF3 hit NA Arcades in Spring of '97. Japanese DC Nov/Dec. 98 (I KNOW this one to be correct, I remember Sal was there when I picked mine up), and US dreamcast version in Fall of '99.

Now, this places this clip at '98 at the earliest, since they're playing "tb" (Akira's PIT is there). But, if they're playing vs. Mode, the Japanese version had no Vs. Mode, that'd put this clip at Fall of '99 at the earliest. Not that it matters...

yeah, VF3, I think it's a better game in a lot of ways. I hope VF5 brings back some of the better ideas from 3 and combines them with 4.

This is the joy of the E Button. people who never played VF3 (I'm not saying that's you, mysterious red) heavily probably don't realize how great it was.

the archivist in me feels like crawling out of the hole...

vf3 came out in japan september 10, 1996, and detroit got it first in NA shockingly soon afterwards. most other places, such as boston, got vf3 starting in november. give or take a week or month or two for some other places.

tb came out almost exactly one year later in japan, september 1997. again, detroit got it first fairly soon after. hardly anyone else got it.

your DC version dates are right on the money. this 1997 date is utter and complete bullshit.
