I just recently have gotten into some british rock bands and I must say that they have some nice music. I am already listening to Doves, the Rakes, Duels, and Oasis. I would like to ask the British VF'ers if you could name other rock bands that you know of or any that you would like to mention. I would very much apreciate it.

Arctic Monkeys are stupidly popular right now.

Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs are also way too popular for their own good. (both launched two years back)

South is also wicked. They are a bit alike to the Doves I guess but they've brought out some rather varied albums.

There's also the Editors with their distinctly sounding singer.

I'd say poke around youtube and amazon with those names a bit and see what drops out.

It's not rock but KT Tunstall is a very good Edinbrough born songstress, no idea if she made it stateside yet. Its really hard to keep track of what floats across the ocean and what doesn't. You name anything popular in America and chances are almost 100% someone picked it up in Europe, it doesn't really work the other way around.

aside: Yeah, I'm not English either, but everything that gets popular there is directly shunted across the North-Sea. Also, the dutch festival scene is usually a tad ahead of the charts.

extra: If you want really wacky try the German group: Wir Sind Helden... Johan has also grown on me quite a bit, he's a Dutchman who writes in English. you could also try visiting Racoon.nl (yes, one c), they put their entire last album up as background music for their site (although it doesn't seem to work for me anymore, maybe you've got more luck). The song you get at the entrance screen is their most succesful single, a ballad rather than their usually more rocky repertoire, parts of them actually were a metal formation before turning 'soft'. The French Noir Desir is also rather interesting.

So, enough commercialization for one day... (and yes, I'm quite the music lover, my cd player is the most expensive piece of equipment I own, even my computer cost less ^_^ )
