Can Pai counter a crouching punch?

i have heard that pai cannot counter a crouching punch, if this is the case what other tactics could you use? (dont say defend /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif)

 

Pai has no reversal on low punch, shame.

 

Use your frame advantage and beat the low punch with a quick mid attack.

 

In general if you anticipate a 2p just evade. Depending on the situation, K+G stuffs it too. I think you need +9 but someone please confirm this.

 

if your opponents guards your 4p, you can get a counter a low punch with your own 6pk

 

Unfortunately, at 25 frames, a 2p spammer will tap you right out of 4p. (with a MC* [see below, ultralewis]) Thinking more about it, 9K+G works very well against 2p spammers and leads to the extra K for knockdown, or a nice but not-guaranteed throw opportunity on major counter*.

*(hitting him out of his move creates a "major counter", giving you added advantage frames and damage) See Here

 

Best thing to do vs. 2P is to do 9K+G since it will beat it out due to your frame advantage. If you don't have enough adv to beat it out with 9K+G use 2P to beat it out, you can also block it to make 9K+G uninteruptable.
If you suspect they might try to evade your 9K+G, going for 6P is better since it has a delayable followup and is much safer then 9K+G on evade.

 

What I do is back up slightly and do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif; /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif; or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. If I can't back up then I will just try to sidestep it and punish it fast but I am not very good at quickly sidestepping jabs, my favorite move is the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif because it staggers people that try to attack it with low attack when Pai has the advantage.

 

From neutral and up 3P avoids 2P and some mids.
From small disadvantage up to -8 WS 4P avoids 2P and some mids.

 

This seems to be my biggest stumbling block with Pai. She's got moves that LOOK like they beat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, but they don't.

Like, why doesn't /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif work? It looks like the type of move thats made to beat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Sometimes I try /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, but it doesn't work enough to be a true low punch counter.

I do use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif when its really predictable, but its so risky as a reaction. I wish Pai had something, anything, that was made to deal with low punch. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Pai has plenty of great options to counter jabs that aren't as obvious as say Vanessa's defensive elbow but they can be effective. Her 9K+G, 3K, 6P, and even 4K all can beat it if you have the advantage. 46P+K can be a potential 2P killer but its wind up it too slow and most 2P will beat it upclose, time it right and the crumples you get from the counter hit gives Pai free combo chances. I favorite is 24K staggers counters attacks or the 26P (free popups on overaggressive attackers)

 

To beat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, first and foremost stick to the basics. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif / /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif in smaller advantage and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif in bigger adv.

Here's a list of what you can use to beat out 2P during regular situations, sorted in order of what I personally think is most effective. When on negative frames I think it's better to block or go for an evade since it's higher payoff and less risk since while 2_4P evades 2P and also some mids it will get hit by midlaunchers and mids with longer range. 66P+K also has good properties for going over a 2P but the reward does not equal with the risk.
