Taka's my main but I've been thinking of trying new things, so how does everyone choose theirs?

I feel going from Taka to the likes of Akira or Shun is a longshot because of the sheer differences in what those characters are 'built' for, and how they 'handle', if you know what I mean. I'm really not familiar with any other character, but Taka to Jeffry seems to be somewhat more logical, or rather, alternating between the two of them looks easier.

When choosing and learning to use a sub, do you guys think certain characters' styles/strats etc. complement others?

All insights are welcome, but I'd especially like to hear from my fellow Taka players.

I think it's hard to move from Taka if you atarted with him as the other characters are not as good and you may suddenly notice that people can now hurt you

When I start to learn a new character it is usually because I want to defend against them better and I emd up finding them fun to play around with. Just pick a characyer you like the look of. If they're hard to use at first so be it. Stick at it!

Look, the way i choose a character is simple, the feeling, and the style... Vanessa was my sub in vf4e but her agressive style, large large set moves and the feeling i got with her was good... So I switched from my old main Jacky (who was too easy to play) Now as a sub, i m interested by Goh, not a lot of person take this character, he is agressive and got a big panel of moves with combos of half energy life barre =) he s style is good and he is efficient.
Once again bro, look the feeling u got with and if you enjoy the way your character fight
    I hope it will help

I was Akira player once since vf4,vf4evo and vanilla. In FS i switch to Pai. Pai is cool, tricky and aggresive character and easy to pick up at first. Now she fits really nice to my gamestyle and im proud that is my main :) lol. I use Vanessa as a sub character because i would like to learn some more complex character than Pai and for me Vanessa was the best choice. For me first thing that you have to do is: pick a character that you like most and try to stick with it.

You obviously should have fun playing with your sub (does not always come at first dojo session).
But choosing your sub maybe it's for counter pick in tournaments (when it's allowed) ?

First you have to think about your game plan (general ie do you rely on throws, wall combos ? what about side turned pressure ? etc...)
Counter-picking in a tournament is to deal with situations or setups you can't with Taka, maximizing your offense and neutralizing your opponent's.
I guess your choice must reflect that, to choose a character which have the tools Taka doesn't possess.

PS: @ Maki : good choice ^^( though I don't like mirrors, I'll have to take your vanessa ^^)

I m not sure yet coz goh is pretty good but he is slow if u comparate with van OS... I like fast players, what i like with goh is that he s got powerful moves...
I m hesitating btw him and "the frame eater" Sarah
And my prb with Sarah is that i don t like her style
Whatever, for now it s Van, i got times to think about that later...

I'm a Wolf Player but i used to be an Akira player back in vf4 and before days. Once i realized i needed too much execution skills to get better with akira i said "ok right now i can't do that i need something else" and i started looking for something that gives me everything right here right now. That's how i felt with wolf and i'm sticking with him.
Despite that i kept akira as sub in vf4 and when the game was in his last period i started using jacky and brad. That's mostly because they are fun and easy to use ad first and because they are the complete opposite of wolf. This will force me to evolve my gameplay style and not kill my brain when i play (new thing, new way to think it's always good).
In FS every character changed so i had to start from scratches for eveyone. I abbandoned jacky and akira and after some command training i'm using Wolf as main, taka as sub (the guy is totally different from the others so i had to figure it out how he works) and he's fun, brad (kinda hard a the beginning but once you realize how simpler he is now he's a lot of fun). Sometimes i use goh too but something inside me tells me i shouldn't be using him.

To keep it short the big 2 reason you wanna have a sub are: keep your mind open and evolve your style or find a way to fight against that character (Especially if you are fighting someone with your main).

I like this train of thought, I didn't even think about that but it makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

Playing who you feel comfortable with AND enjoy using is important. You might have to mess around with several characters before you find your "soul mate" There is a character for everyone that just clicks with them ,and you will go off with them with consistent training.

Just keep playin around with different characters and you will find your main/sub.
