First I get 2.4. And now Chrono Trigger? *ShinobiFist faints* Oh man, life is good.

I've only ever played and finished one RPG in my life, and that was Xenogears. As long as the game was, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Anyway, I had heard many good things about Chrono Trigger but had never played it. I tried tracking it down on emulator to see what I missed out, and quickly saw that Xenogears took a lot of inspiration from Chrono Trigger. However, I didn't feel like going through a similar journey again so I quickly gave up on playing CT. Remember, I'm don't generally play RPGs so it has to be pretty special to hold my interest.

For those that have played both games, how would you compare them?

They are both awesome RPGs, with interesting characters, memorable and enchanting soundtracks, and engaging plot-developments.

CT has aged quite a bit now though, even for a classic. Xenogears had a fun battle mechanic with the combo-based attacks, but CT has team-based attacks.

Graphics can't really be compared, since they were released on different gen platforms, but they are both top notch for their time, relatively speaking.

As much as I liked Xenogears though (Id, anyone? And the mechs of course!), personally I would rate CT as the better RPG overall. The Toriyama-designed characters, the time-plot device, multiple endings, team based attacks, beautiful music really makes a hell of a package.

However, I didn't feel like going through a similar journey again so I quickly gave up on playing CT.

Not really sure what you meant, but both are games that I would recommend. Which part in CT did you get up to?

What I meant was that it felt like the story/theme was very similar to xenogears -- a journey that spanned time and generations, lots of feelings of deja vu, knowing people from a previous life, etc.

Anyway, I tried it so long (years) ago that I don't remember how far I got in. And to be honest, I'm not even sure if my recollection of the reason why I stopped is accurate anymore, but that was the general idea.

Oh, the graphics were a generational leap backwards as well, which was hard for me to stomach /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif whereas Xenogears was, understandably, gorgeous at the time.

  8. I'd love to see this, though its not anything I haven't already done before... 5 or 6 or 7 or 10 times.

I was actually going to start playing through CT again here in after playing through FFVII again.

Ugh, I'm such a fuckin' dork.
