Before the site went down we could add VF command art to our posts. What happened to it?

Akai just solved that mystery (via the shoutbox). Just putting numbers/buttons into square brackets gets us the command art icons again [IMG].

Yep, and just FYI the change in command notation to numeric format was announced in the Forums upgraded to UBB.threads 7.5.3 thread.

In addition to that, when making a post/reply using the full editor (i.e. not a quick reply), all the command graphics can be found under the Smilies drop-down menu.

I was probably the only one annoyed by this change although i haven't voiced it. Nevertheless, this thread gives me an opportunity to post a link explaining why SRk doesn't use numeric notation: http://shoryuken.com/?p=17

IMHO notation should be standard AND we should be given an option whether to display the combos on 1P side or 2P side and have the emoticons change accordingly. Of course that would be asking too much but hey, one can always hope [IMG]

    Almost missed this...

AFAIK Sirlin is not "the voice" of SRK and doesn't get to call the shots of how the place is run. And again, AFAIK, there are no rules being enforced with regard to notation being used. So your statement that "SRK doesn't use numeric notation" isn't quite correct.

But more importantly, it's clear that by reading the comments, particularly by reputable members like Seth Killian, tragic, etc, that the SRK community doesn't necessarily agree with his proposal either.

Equally, I will not enforce or insist that people use one notation versus another in their posts. The only thing I do enforce is the command markup syntax used to translate into graphical icons. I'm happy enough that people contribute, period.

The problems with the previous syntax was we couldn't use [ b ] for "back" like we use [ f ] for "forward" because it conflicts with [ b ] for bold formatting. So [ bk ] had to be used instead. Similarly, with [ u ] for "up" and [ u ] for underline formatting, and so [ up ] was used. Again, this only affects the graphical markup language.

Using numpad notation elimates this problem altogether. It's also consistent command notation used in Asian countries, which is helpful when trolling Japanese sites/BBS's for bits of info, etc.

    I really hope you're joking.
