Complaining about VF5 (was Amusement Bee-Bee)

Not techrolling is a perfectly good and valid tactic at times. I do it a lot to throw opponent off rhythm as good okizeme and rising attack crush is all about rhythm.

 

If you can guess that the opponent is not going to Tech Roll, it's a perfectly legitimate technique to do big down attacks, or continue with bounce (off the ground) combos.

 

The key knowing how the enemy reacts to your techrolling or lack of it. It may actually help to avoid certain and invite them as well if you aren't careful. In the same way techroll traps can leave a person vulnerable as well. The key finding that perfect balance as far as when to do it or not to it, now that is a real challenge. I used to get real in real trouble by not tech rolling and now that I make a real habit of it can become a curse sometimes unless I roll backwards so pai's or goh's anti techrolling moves essentially becoming useless.

 

Yeah but in VF5 the time the opponent HAVE to stay on the ground no matter how hard he mashes buttons to get up is really short. Hence you can often not techroll on purpose, mash early, and make the big down attack miss (especially slow ones). There's a lot of examples where the 7P option select will not even work. I think this was perfectly balanced in VF4, don't know why they changed that, it actually encourage staying down, kinda boring imo.

Send me an 360 then; I've stated time and again: I have no interest in contributing to an economy based entirely on exploitation unless it's for a necessity (i.e. food, rent, tuition).

My response was only my opinion based on the Amusement Bee thread started by someone else. I don't see how this escalated to a new thread started by ME.

I can think of a few less inflammatory statements.

People get a little weird about VF stuff. I have gripes about the game design but it doesn't mean I hate the game or something (obviously since I play it all the time). People act all offended when someone says their character is a hassle to deal with for this or that reason. The character you play is not a family member. Does anyone empathize with their character to the extent that they have to say "You just don't understand him (or her (or him/her in the case of Vanessa))!"

Maybe some people understand enough about a character to know that they think the character is wack and that they wish Sega made the game a little different. That is a subjective thing. VF5 is made by humans and like all man-made things it is "imperfect." Someone could say that it is bad to complain about the game b/c it doesn't help to grow the community or whatever, but honestly I would say that players who utilize uber-turtle or Vanessa keep away and DMPK tactics would have to be more discouraging to newcomers than any gripe-thread.
