So Im looking to get a character who's counter I can use as an offense. Ie: I want to try to get as good at countering as possible so that instead of attacking, I merely counter and then counterattack.
Any thought on what character I should use?

(And yes, this is one of those "hey, let's make up a crazy goal for ourself and then do it!" kind of things.)

Aoi can counter almost everything, not everything but almost. I say if u wanna counter then attack after play Dead or alive, it's just one button to counter and everyone can do it!!!

lol but fer real man, no one counters much these days.

Don't listen to them! DOA is not nearly as deep as VF4. I like to counter a lot and I use Aoi. She is by far the best for countering. I also use Goh who has no actual counters but has some great sabakis and some really quick hits that are great to counterattack. Otherwise, Pai has a few and so does Vanessa.

One thing to remember is that it is very difficult to counter when you are on the defensive. It is better to attack and then use the counter when you get yourself into trouble

A newcomer to the board asks a question and you guys turn it into a bash the other game / personal fight thread... mean people suck.

    Nex:
Look at this for tips on selecting a character.

Other than that, you would almost have to clarify what you mean by countering on offense as there are many types.

With Aoi you can use sabakis to a great extent when you're in a disadvantage situation and you're being attacked but there are also characters who have moves that give advantage on block (Lei fei, his confusing patterns can also give alot of CH's) alot, people with moves that are just really powerful on counterhits (like Akira) or characters that are just fast (Pai, who also has sabakis and reversals). Some characters can be considered easier to play if you're new to the game aswell...

Look at replays on your dvd disc and the movies sorted by character and take your pick.

If you want to play a game that uses "Reversals" as an offencive measure, than Doa3 is the game for you. If your just looking for one particular character(S) with that ability, you can pick Aoi(shes the queen of reversing in Vf) or you can use Pai.

EDIT- Oh yeah, like someone mentioned before(unless that person was joking) there are counter throws(and Hi counter throws) in Doa...So I guess Doa might be the game for you if you like to use "countering" as a means of offense."

    Hi.

Where does it say that he is looking for a game where he can use alot of reversals/counterattacks?
Point me to the part where he says that he owns both a ps2 and an Xbox or did you just assume?
How are reversals offensive in nature?

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

Whats up with all this negativity.

    1) He said:

"So Im looking to get a character who's counter I can use as an offense. Ie: I want to try to get as good at countering as possible so that instead of attacking, I merely counter and then counterattack.

He was looking for a character, and I mentioned characters and a game(but you did not mention that). If he is not interested in Doa he can just disregard that part of my post. Also, His post could have been interpreted that he was looking for a counter attack inwhich he can use to get more counter attacks, or a reversal inwhich he can follow up with attacks.

2)Where in his post did he say he had only one console? If he dont have an xbox he can get doa2 HC.

3)offensively-Reversals can be used to set up your opponent, than you counter attack.

again whats your problem. Your taking these comments that myself and others posted so personnaly. Lighten up.

    Re: Hi.

Yup, I was mean... sorry about that. Still feel you were doing some weird plug for DoA (it wouldn't be your first on this vf board right?), specially since you replied to my post and as mentioned the DoA aura that surrounds you but I shouldn't judge people like that. I honestly think the reply was abit of topic (as I thought my questions were legit) but it was probably just me. It's all good exept you can never make me believe that an reversal is a offensive tool and not a defensive one (a parry might be, with a stretch, but not a reversal), no matter how much you try explaining it as a setup move (?) but that's just a difference in opion you and I can agree to disagree upon /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I don't want to pick your second reply to me apart as this thread is already of topic and I seemed to really offend you with the questions (but I had no intent to) really so we'll just leave it at that. The Songs say this is the time to be Jolly so let's - I'll even buy you gingerbread cookies if you pop up in Sweden over Christmas. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Peace Out man.

    Re: Hi.

haha! Wow, this thread took off in a totally different direction that I thought it would.
Yeah, I know all about DoA and it's versatile (and ridiculously easy) countering system, but I was just looking for a character within VF who could counter well and with versatility. DoA's counters are effective, but the reality of the thing is that the game is just not as deep as VF is.

Oh, and since someone will probably take this all as a bash toward DoA, i wanna clarify that this isnt that at all. I stil love DoA for quick matches and just messing around with some of my friends who havent played other games as much, but VF really does offer a depth of play that DoA just doesnt have.

Oh, and thanks KiwE. Way to understand my question. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
In the future Ill be sure to clarify better and use smaller words.
    Hehe.

ya... we like arguing with each other in these forums. it solidifies our friendships. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

use Aoi btw. reversal queen. unless you have something against playing girl characters... then use akira (he could reverse almost every move) but if you find his moves too hard to execute, use Lei-Fei... i dunno why... but hes good defensively... so is goh actually. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif theres 4 characters for you... try all the characters out and see for yourself lol.

    Re: Hi.

Can i just say that DOA reversal system is very simple compared to that of vf4, but who guessed it wouldnt be. I played it on the Xbox a while ago and I was suprised you could reversal rising from ground position kicks?! Plus reversal or 10x easier since they appear to stay in reversal aninatuib for 20frames or such?! I guess if you like that look of reversal and playing that kinda thing DOA would be up your ally.

    Re: Hi.

Jason, just ask jimmy. He was mad reversing my rising attacks last time I played him.

Low kick, high kick, full circular, and he was stoppin em all and puttin me back down on the ground.

To get on topic though: Has anyone ever done an EVADE to a reversal? I was playin KTD the other night, and reversed a high punch with Vanessa. She got him in the arm lock, forced him to the ground, and instead of snapping his arm, he kicked up his feet and avoided a large portion of the damage.

Does anyone have a clue what just happened there? Neither him nor I could figure out what he did, and I acidentally skipped saving the replay :-\

    Re: Hi.

The answer my friend, is blowing in Vanessa's Command List.

You can 'escape' part of the Prison Arm Lock reversal with [P]+[G] for reduced damage.
