Haha yeah, that's the big question but with input control like that I'd say he could be awesome at VF.

When you get beat because of something like that, your ego can shatter like a frog dipped in liquid hydrogen shot with a BB gun...it would have been interesting to see the next fight and compare it to the ones before.

Is it true that the Chun-Li player started smashing the joypad hoping to get the opponent out of the zona and have him lose a parry and thus the fight?

If so that is really low.

That's a shame. Losing like that to a guy you may never play against again is something you'll remember for a long time.

Justin Wong was mashing his buttons and stick while daigo did the whole parry. I think they were both on separate sticks

Seperate sticks or not, it is not done and is imo a really really low thing to do.

I posted about the vid in the Evo tournament thread. It actually deserves it own thread though.

This match was the fight for 3rd place in the 3S finals. Justin won the first game. Daigo was facing elimination if he didn't win. Daigo won the third game no problem and thus advancing to the losers final.

I take it you haven't watched the vid Fishie. It shows an outside caption of Daigo and Justin while playing. When Daigo starts parrying the second set of kicks from the SA.2 super, you can see him mashing his stick out of desperation.

Justin is the undisputed MVC2 champ and that game's engine encourages people to mash out of combos. Mashing while getting hit in 3S has no effect. Maybe he did this in trying to distract Daigo but I think it wouldn't have made a difference because the crowd noise was so huge as soon as he started parrying(which is also heard from the vid).

I think the most spectactular moment is that Daigo jumped on purpose to parry the final hit of the move to stay close enough for a more damaging combo. People can parry Chun-li's SA.2 with some practice when you anticipate it but stay grounded the whole time. That before was totally unheard of.

What is even more shocking somewhat is that Daigo still didnt win the whole tournament after doing that. He lost to KO (A Japanese Yun player) once again in the final. I'm hoping their matches were just as incredible as their matches in last years Evo final.

Can't wait for this years Evo DVD. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pretty much what Shag said, except that final jumping parry allowed for a jump kick into combo for maximum damage. Had ne not jumped I dare say the combo may not have been enough for the finish?!

Fishie, your hating on Wong isn't welcomed here. Giving opinions on something you know next to nothing about isn't welcomed either. Nobody can take anything away from Wong, whether you like his playing style or not.

Last time when I've spoken to Daigo he said that he is no good at Virtua Fighter 4 Evo. I would have love to see him dedicate and hone his skillls to VF though. If he won't do it then we should get his mum instead because she's AWESOME! WHen she beaten so many brers on 3s' it was so shameful! Seeing her - or any women let alone girl - play VF Evo/FT hardcore would be a bliss to see! I hope I would always beat them though otherwise I'll be shamed.

Thing that cracks me up is that it seems to be a fairly standard match up until that point.

WackyJacky had sent me a link of it in an email and I'm waiting and waiting for it to download...then the clip starts and I was like yeah, so what?

Then you see the picture close in and then realise why the clip is so unbelievable. Plus the crowd going wild just adds to it further.

    It's MADNESS!

IT was a cool moment, I've watched some good matches and crazy combo's that I thought u couldn't do in 3S when I played the game. Makes me wanna get into the game again but it's too late for me to learn a new me thinks and I don't like adjusting from one game to another.

Mashing the buttons to put ur opponent off is fair IMO. I mean in a big trny, I think anything goes and u'd win by any means nessesary. Just like most fighting game finals are turtle like or charge like play.

Jumping Fierce, Myke /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Having watched the clip dozens of times in complete amazement, I'd have to agree that the jumping parry is what made the entire finish possible. Had Daigo not jumped, there's no way he would have been able to string the final combo together. Which makes the whole moment even more golden. Justin realizes the second his final kick is parried in the air that he's done and lets go of the stick. The final jumping fierce, low kick, shoryuken cancelled into super was beautiful.

    .cheers.

It wasn't a jump fierce /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think you need to watch it again.. a dozen times isn't enough!

It was a jump parry which lead to position him closer towards chun li. You can parry two different ways in the air. Parry towards your opponent or parry and land safely away about sweep distance. Daigo parried into Chun Li and started the combo. Nice finish. The place was loud enough to where it started to pitch real loud.
