Interesting 8-min video at Google Video of two French people who seem to be judoka playing the game and saying "JuuUUUDOOooo!" over and over.

Can't tell half of what they're saying (besides "Ippon?!", lol), but I guess they're just playing the Quick Game mode, which is just a golden score mode except it's whoever gets an ippon first wins (rather than any smaller score, which just seem to tally up), so no groundwork (assuming there is newaza in this game somewhere). Anyway, the system of how you throw and the scoring system is interesting.

However, appearently it's not coming to NA. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif But there's a French PC demo you can get on that page, so whatever.

There is newaza from what I understand, but like with Judo in real life - most Judoka stay away from it.

Haha, but if you become good at newaza, you'll be feared by everyone on the mat ... it's like 60% of judo. I need to get better /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

60%? You do Kosen Judo? Because Kodokan judo is like 80% standing, 20% newaza.

Kodokan. although I've always been told it's more balanced that what you say, I guess it's more near your figure. My bad. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Its simply a matter of the game. Easier to win by a throw than with newaza.

Hhmmm, it just arrived at the local game store over here. When I get the chance I'll pick it up. I'll let you know what I think in a week or two. (There is an English version, but the only release seems to be for PAL PS2's. Sorry guys, I'll just bug you with my excitement about it anyway ^_^ )

From the vid it seems to be jumping onto the rythm-game bandwagon, I've never been really good at those myself, then again, I can't be bothered with hopping on time or tapping bongo's. In the options it seems you can also disable those button prompts at the bottom... I wonder how you're supposed to judge stuff then. there's got to be some system based on the current motion in place then.

Ah well, let's hope there's a Dutchman in there. (Dennis van der Geest and Anton Geesink are big names, so it wouldn't be that odd. The latter of the two is rather vintage though...)

    Edit:
    Oh darn, a demo...
Let's roll through that first then...
