I was really surprised to see the following quote from Itagaki (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=189396):

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">So what's next for Dead or Alive?

Itagaki: This is another area that me and my closest colleagues all agree that we were able to achieve the definitive fighting game with DOA4. So we're not looking to extend the series at this point.</div></div>

Wow, I'll be surprised if we don't ever see DOA5 as I'm sure Tecmo will not abandon a reasonably successful franchise, but I guess it probably won't be produced by Itagaki.

Thats a shame because from what I hear DOA4 was a bit of a mess when compared with 3.

it's kinda sad that that drunken fool Itagaki honestly believes he achieved "the definitive fighting game" with DOA4. It's exactly that illusion that prevents him from making the DOA series from 'good' into 'great'
But I Do hope DOA5 will come and be created by someone else.

I hate to hear that because besides VF, dead or alive is my second favorite fighting game. I liked DOA ultamate more than 3 or 4 because 3 was too simple and 4 seemed to take on the tekken element and made the game suck.I was hoping for a five soon but I'm not surprised because the entire time the game was out we never even got any new downloadable content. I just hate the fact I spent so much time achieving an "S" ranking and getting really good only to hear that it's over. That's like me finally getting past 10th dan in VF and we hear that there will be no more VF Games..... EVER! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

He was just making excuses, I'm guessing he's moving to another job or retiring seeing as he's gave up on Ninja Gaiden too.

Haha I didn't even realize there were two General forums...one VF and one non-VF.

Yeah I can't wait to see what the game can look like without that tool at the helm.

This sounds like good news to me. As a Virtua Fighter player, I always hear comments like Virtua Fighter was inspired by DOA, or that Virtua Fighter is a slower clone of DOA.

The sad thing is that DOA is just a retarded, boob-obsessed version of the beloved VF franchise and was way overrated to begin with. Good Riddance.

EDIT: No, wait, I take some of that back. DOA doesn't even deserved to be called a 'version' of VF. Its just a pervert stealing the general game engine and stupefying it greatly.

I like the DOA series(first three games and Ultimate),but I didn't like DOA4 because it felt like a buttonmasher and took away a lot of important gameplay elements from DOA 1-3 and Ultimate. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

By the way, DOA 3 has three versions. DOA 3.0, DOA 3.1, and DOA 3.2.

The reversal button?!? How shitty is that???!!!???

The ring outs in the older versions were beyond retarded too... Like lava that made you bounce?

Yeah, they were called "danger zones", if I recall correctly.

I agree DOA is so worthless a game that it is not worth discussing on a classy site like VFDC.

No, Tekken actually has a functioning movement/evade system and throw breaks, among other things.

Yeah sidestepping is worthless in DOA; tracking is so liner it's ridiculous. But Tekken 5 isn't much better. Tekken 4's movement system is the only one that comes close to korean movement and seems the only recent Tekken with originality.

I use to like DOA, I always saw potential in that series and I always had hope that they would address just a few issues but they never did /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
But now that Itakagi is leaving maybe it'll get better before it gets worst.

DOA just has to make some adjustments and it could become a really good game that could rival Tekken for sure. Who knows, with as bad as Tekken's gameplay is getting this could be the perfect time for DOA to take Tekken's spot... maybe. Have to take into consideration how rabid both Tekken and DOA fans can be. It's yet to be determined if bad gameplay will make them want to quit "the best-looking fighting game ever!!!".
    Meh.

Some guy on YouTube created a trio of videos on how DOA4 was a disappointment compared to DOA 3.1 or any DOA game.
