Defense question

Just starting VF5, late I know.

I'm getting used to quick recovering when I'm downed, but when my opponent sets up an unblockable attack after he downs me, what's the best way to respond? Delay getting up? Get up slightly before it impacts and OM?

So far, OM seems slightly slow to me although of course I see people use it really quickly. It's my impression that it's best used when you have the advantage, and that when you're at disadvantage it doesn't function as quickly as say, a parry in SF3.

Maybe what I should be going for is a DM instead?

    Wellcome in vfdc adverse.
About your questions: There's no best way to defend, every situation has some specific options so there's no real answer, but you can try to see which are the habits of your opponent. The solution you'r suggesting are a possibility, but i didn't realized which specific condition you are talking about. Try to show us a scenario so at least I can understand better what you mean (if someone else understudd that better than me of course could answer i guess).
About offensive move, as the name suggest, is something to use when you have the advantage. Using it at disadvantage is really risky and really specific. I use it on my wake up when i expect a direct attack from my opponent, and it doesn't work every time i want (bad habits from me).
A dm will be a safer choice, because if you don't obtain a dodge you will obtain a failed evade which you can cancel with a dash (no matter what dash you use, but it's better a front dash whici is [G] cancellable).
I hope my post is usefull for you [IMG] see you

The specific situation was something like this: Jeffrey would down me with a throw which did not seem to be quick-recoverable. So I'm on the ground, and in the meantime he sets up an unblockable attack which I wake up right into.

I suppose I'm supposed to be DM'ing set-ups like these.

If you could find out what the throw and move are we could give you a solution. Try going through Jefferys command list in dojo to see if you recognise any.

Be careful, keep in mind that the move is half-circular so if you DM towards his back you will be hit regardless, so evade to his stomach as you should be doing.

If your opponent keeps on throwing it out all the time, well personally I would be happy because it's severely punishable which is to be expected from that slow speed and whiff.

The attack is likely to be [6][K]+[G]. The throw attempt isnt guaranteed when it hits block though, you can recover from the stagger by struggling. If the move hits at all, throw attempt is guaranteed.

The answer is indeed delaying waking up. Or at least its simpler than trying to sidestep the kick. Keep in mind though that if you delay the rising kick, it becomes punishable on block. So if you delay rising up, its better to rise without using rising kick.

It will possibly become a guessing game between Jeff doing ground stomp or the staggering kick. Ground stomp if you stay at the ground.

Hey Manji, your advice is correct but I had a different move in mind when he mentioned unblock-able move and Jeffry only has one which is [4][4][6][P] max charged.

It would be nice if adverse could at least specify if it was a punch or kick.

2p is really bad advice. This is wakeup were talking about.

Im uncertain whether there are cases where DM wouldn't work either. Sometimes it has really felt like it. When the rising attack crush has been timed to a frame, I have not been able to evade it either, only block. And Im talking highlevel offline here. Maybe its just me but I wish someone with a programmable stick would do exhaustive research on this one.
