DEVASTATION 2K9 Phoenix, AZ Multi-Game $2,000 Pots

I thought I'd drop by VFDC to post up DEVASTATION 2009 and see if there's any interest in having VF5 there. VF5 was at DEVASTATION 2008, but it wasn't really promoted so it was mainly people who entered other games participating.

Since VF5 is back in WCG this year, I thought I would see if there's any interest in having VF5 at DEVASTATION 2009. It would probably have to be a side event unless there's significant interest, but our side events are almost as big as our main events. We already have several side events lined up.

Here's the info on the event. Please post up if you'd be interested in a VF5 side event, or just coming to the event in general.

DEVASTATION is back again for its fifth year and we are bigger and better than ever! To celebrate this fifth anniversary we are blowing the roof off for our players and posting guaranteed pots for tournament games. The titles announced so far are $2,000.00 for SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL, STREET FIGHTER IV and GUILTY GEAR XX ACCENT CORE; the NEXT $2,000.00 tournament title will be announced soon... In addition to the HUGE payouts we are proud to partner with the Big Boys & Their Toys Expo to cover our expo area this year. Registered players will have access to over 160,000 square feet of expo space adjoining the DEVASTATION event floor.

All registered players will receive a free DEVASTATION shirt, custom badge and lanyards, raffle ticket and more; you even get to choose the custom badge online! Click "Add to Cart" on one of the games in the registration section and you will see the badges available this year.

A portion of all proceeds, including the raffle and other fundraisers will go towards Off Campus Jams, a not-for-profit organization that maintains foster home communities and programs for children under eighteen. So not only are you able to attend an awesome Event, but also help out an extraordinary cause at the same time.

I saw the SoCal gathering, but right now there aren't a lot of active VF players in Phoenix, so I'd only have online to practice and I dislike online. I may get back into VF5 for WCG, at which point I would consider going, but otherwise VF isn't enough to get me to travel... unless the Phoenix scene picks up and I have people to play against.

A lot of people from SoCal are planning to attend so it probably won't be much of a hassle to get a carpool going.

Tekken 6 and Guitar Hero World Tour now have $2000 guaranteed prize pots!

More announcements are coming and the side tournaments are starting to spring up. We'll have a BlazBlue arcade, Smash Melee and Brawl doubles side tournaments.

I'm trying to gauge interest in a Killer Instinct (arcade) and Puzzle Fighter (360) side tournament. Thoughts?

If enough VF5 people express interest, we will hold a VF5 tournament. We have a huge casual area, so if someone wants to bring a console and VF5, a side tournament can easily be held.

 

WTF...and I thought I might have been the only guy playing VF in Arizona, and all of a sudden there's a tournament in Phoenix?? hahaha

I'm in Yuma, which is a good 2 1/2 hrs away from Phoenix, so I'll definitely try to go to this. If anything to just try and represent VF to all the people there who still haven't experienced it. Maybe get a few converts....

To DrDogg, if you want to start a small gathering of people you know who play VF in Phoenix, and I'll see what I can do here, maybe we can start a VF scene for Arizona. We got to start somewhere if VF is ever gonna catch on...

Right now VF5 is not at DEVASTATION, although we can easily set it up in the casual (BYOC) area. There's plenty of room over there.

I don't know of anyone else who plays VF5 seriously. A few people in Phoenix played when it was the latest fighter out. It was a featured game at DEVASTATION 2007 and 2008. I took 3rd in 2007 and 1st in 2008, but I haven't hardly touched the game since last year.

If people in Phoenix were up for some games, I'd play... but right now there's no one.

I really hope we can get a VF5 side tournament or something this year. Last year there was bunch of people that showed up and played that I had no idea played VF. They just come out of no where.

BlazBlue has some good hype.

 

We're had a good local scene for BF, but the local VF scene is dead. If enough VF players say they're coming we'll definitely hold a side tournament for it. ^_^

 

there could be a VF side tournament if the VF community would get together and organize something. If someone wants to run something post up here or shot DrDogg or myself a pm and we can get this thing going.

Address Update/Confirmation

• The Phoenix Convention Center is comprised of three buildings and to help clarify the one we are in, the South Building, we have updated the address to reflect that specific building: 33 South 3rd Street Phoenix, Arizona 85004.
• When you get to the South Building do not go into the Main entrance but rather, the South Entrance/Lobby that is to the South/Right of the Main lobby. We are cool enough to have our own entrance and lobby directly into the South Ballroom.
