Differences between DM and Evade

    Thought I'd bring this us so higher ups can clarify (granted some
    will just point at the wiki) since maybe "I" don't understand.

    From what I KNOW yes, i'm going to go out on a limb and say KNOW.

    Defensive move = DM = 8_2p+k = a canned dodge with a canned kick.
    What I don't know is can it be delayed. But if you DM you ARE
    DOING AN ATTACK.

    Evade = 8_2 = a dodge without a canned attack.

    So many people seem to use DM for Evade it's amazing. Maybe
    evade needs to be called ED.

    My understanding is that

    Defensive Move = just tapping /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif.

    Defensive Move plus /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is an attack being done during DM and can be delayed.

    Evade = for the most part, synonymous to Defensive Move.

    I thought, uh, Sugarman was right. DM=DM. Evade is Evade.

    Doesn't it say that in the VF4 EVo tutorial?

    The reason why DM is used so much is because a lot of people don't understand that DM is an unsafe move and use it as their source of evade.

    I couldnt have said it better. People have no clue how unsafe DM is and the reason it hits so much is because 9 out 10 times its placement in a mtach is just so out of place. On top of that the surprise factor of O_O wtf i cant believe he used that 4 times in a row only continues to encourage people to spam it. So now when ever i play against wolf, jacky,brad, sarah if i see DM atleast 2 times before a match is over i usually just try to bait the move and welcome the easy win with open arms.

    DM is not an attack, it is an evade. Akai basically hit the nail on the head.

    DM P+K is a specific attack FROM Defensive Move, whereas a Defensive Move itself is simply inputting 8 or 2 -- a method for evading an opponent's attack.

    DM = evade
    DM P+K = something else entirely

    Check the wiki!

    As other have said, DM = evade, not evade attack.

    Evade was renamed Defensive Move in VF5 to (logically) differentiate it from Offensive Move.

    And it says in the commandlist in the game says that the evade attack is to be executed "DURING Defensive Move". Check it yourself.

    DM = evade

    DM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif = is supposedly a top tier technique

    Was it always like this, or was there a change in 5? Am I crazy for remembering that Evade attacks in 4 were called "DM" ?

    I'll have to check at home, but in the command completion stages for characters, don't they list the DM attacks as somthing like "/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (after DM)" or "(from DM)?" That would imply to me that DM is the move preceding the DM attack.

    My goodness, too much thinking going on here!

    DM is evade, whether it be successful or not. So DM isn't an attack. DM/evade attack is an attack

    OM is p+k+g from DM. What's so hard to understand? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    I think you're making it up, happy friend. There was no official use of the name "defensive move" in VF4. It was just evade and evade attacks. The name DM was only created because "evade" doesn't differentiate between DM and OM.

    It is possible. If anyone is really motivated, play VF4 Evolution. Go to the Jacky training where they teach you /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif followed by /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    That is where I seem to remember them calling it "Defensive Move."

    Of course I have been wrong before. I generally am a better player than I am a VF pedant.

    DM (VF5) = Evade (VF4)

    DM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (VF5) = Evade /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (VF4)

    No difference.

    I'm very glad this was set to rest, I spent a while with Sugaraman talking about DM and evade meaning the same thing now. Not trying to apply salt or anything.

    I usually just say DM as a shortcut for DM P+K. Otherwise I'd call it sidestep, and OM is always OM.

    Others already pointed out the exact terms.

    But yeah, I'm still sticking to what I said earlier about people online over using DM PK /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    By introducing the Offensive Move (OM), I think they took the opportunity to reconcile all terminology related to evasive movement. Hence, renaming Evade/Escape to Defensive Move (DM).

    Both DM and OM are movements, which are effective as a defensive or offensive measure, respectively.

    Both movements can optionally lead into (canned) attacks.
