As you probably can see about the subject, I am a very beginner /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
Just bought the game last weekend and I am working my way through the trials and command lists.
I have problems pulling out those 270 degrees stick movements, like the Taiboku Taoshi from Aoi. ( [8][9][6][3][2][1][4] [P]+[G] )
My problem is I have the standard gamepad from Playstation 2 and it seems you can only use the direction buttons and for this technique using the analog stick would be more handy! It seems I can't set that analog stick up, right? If I can't, how can I best learn this one, because now I kind-of wiggle my thumb from [8] clockwise to the [4] button, but I often fail to press one of those buttons....
Also, I wonder about those tricky combo's: is it just a matter of very fast pressing all those different buttons? I mean, when I am halfway those button-sequences (like [P][P][P][2][K][G][6][P]+[K][P] ) I am dead and burried /versus/images/icons/grin.gif
I know, there are pre-setted key-presses in the controller settings, but stil hard to pull off so fast for a beginner /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif
    Any advices? /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

It helps to roll closer to the edge of a pad for 270's, and to do the motion quickly. Also if you do the motion in trial training with commands turned on, you might find you make a common mistake: Pressing P+G before you have finished rolling all the way to [6]. In street fighter you can sort of get away with rolling to [3] but in VF you must roll all the way to [6]. Also, keep in mind there are other ways to do the 270, and these might be easier for you, like ending in [8] instead of [6] (not sure what aoi's specifics are)

    Thanks for the advice! /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
    I will try it soon.
About the other question using the stick in stead of the direction button: is that somehow possible ?

I don't think it is possible to use the analog stick instead. You should probably buy a joystick. It's definitely better for those motions.

The full 270 degree motion is not required in VF4. [8][4][1][2][3][6] or [2][4][7][2][9][6] is all you need. Just as long as [8_][4_][2_][6_] or [2_][4_][8_][6_] register the throw will come out. Of course, as Creed said, you must complete the motion perfectly before entering [P]+[G].

Funny thing... may not help everybody, but...

I started growing my nails out this year and using nail-strengthening products. One day, I tried using my thumbnail to perform a 270 and found that it was surprisingly easier than it had ever been using the "pad" of my thumb. Note that my thumbnail is not extending past the flesh of my thumb at this point, but rather just coming up flush with it, which just seems to provide a lot more rigidity and precision.

I don't know if anyone else is going to have any luck with this, but what else are forums for?

PS You may want to clip the left corner of your nail a little closer than the rest if you play a lot... mine started to dig into the flesh after extended playing.
