Wait till Super Bowl weekend, your going to see some great deals. If your going on the plasma route, get a Panasonic or a Pioneer. Don't bother with a Samsung. Just save some cash till next month, and get a Bravia or Aquos. But if you could score a good deal on a Pioneer or Panasonic plasma, get one of those instead.

Special thanks to you Brisal. Thank you Brisal for all your help. I'd give you a free giant swing, but you don't need it.

If your going to spend that much money on a flat panel LCD, get a Pioneer Kuro. It has been said numerous times by me, Brisal and Plague, if you could get a Plasma, get one they're the best for gaming and overall experience, hands down. Plasma technology has made major improvements over the years(Like No Burn in)Get a Kuro, You could find them around New York for 2,100 or less, wait for Superbowl weekend.
Link-www.jr.com/pioneer/pe/PIO_PDP5020FDLook at that price, we could go to JR, and pick that thing are damn selves and save money on shipping.

I've never researched plasma so I've not commented on Kuro.

I say Sony KDL52w4100 (don't confuse that with the 52V4100 or the 52WL140). XBR6 looks good. W4100 is a better value. It's on Amazon today for $18xx.xx including shipping.

Regardless of what brand you buy, true 120Hz and matte screens are your real friends.

OMG you guys are making this complicated. Ok i'm gonna start from the beginning of this thread and read peoples responses. The Kuro sounds great, but the XBR6 has me more interested probably because I already own a Bravia (L series though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif ). Any way I love my current Bravia, so I wouldn't mind owning another. Really I just want something BIG, great value and awesome picture for Blue Ray... gaming really comes second since I pretty much use my PC monitor to play VF. I only use my current Bravia when the boys come over.

Both the Kuro and Sony are badass

    Things to keep in mind:
Sony LCD's are awesome but expensive. Usually higher than other LCD's
Plasmas, but prices can be high for what you get.
Get a good return policy. I personally wouldn't buy a TV online cause it would be a bitch to return if you don't like it at home.

if it was choice between Sony or Kuro... I would take Kuro. Eso for Blu Ray Movies

Yes, 120Hz is very important especially your HDTV is bigger than 40'. I'm dreaming about one day I could purchase Samsung 46LNA650 and Logitech Z-5500 for a small home theater!!!!!
Btw, I just bought 'The Dark Knight' BD form Amazon UK and it's cheaper than Amazon US!!! More important it only took 3 days shipping!!! I just realize UK has a lot of "free" region BD and some of them are much cheaper!!!

Thanks Brisal! Yea I would rather get something that puts out a better picture for BDs. And your right and I can save about $300-$500 bucks if I don't go Sony. I really had my heart set on the XBR6, but the money I can save I can put towards a really nice TV stand which I would have to purchase any way since I don't own anything that could hold a TV of that size.

Looks like Kuro it is unless the XBR6 price takes a major dive in the next 2 weeks when I'm ready to go out shopping.

Damn you Talis... now my hunger for a Bravia has reawakened. *sigh* ok back to doing more research! Hopefully within the next 2 weeks prices will take a major dive. If anyone sees a nice price drop on the XBR6 please post it up. Thanks!

    Go to AVSforum.com

Here is a video review of the Kuro

I personally would get the Mitsubishi DLP WD65835. Just a bit over 2k and you get 120hz, 3D Ready (up incoming TV tech), and 65 inches. Blue Rays will rock guaranteed.

Konjou, you could make a thread on the AVS forums, and the majority of the folks there are going to tell you to go with the Kuro. Even if the SONY drop a little bit in price, your getting a Kuro for a bargain. The Black levels, Motions and viewing angles destroys LCD's. And plus, J&R is right here in the NY, no need for shipping. I'm getting the Elite Kuro Model from Pioneer, the only flat panel in the history of Cnet to ever get a perfect score. I can't play games or even watch movies on LCD's. That's why I held on to my baby girl SONY WEGA CRT HDTV 34inch for so long, nothing ever came close to this tube, nothing. Get the Kuro. Go to Cnet, and look at the reviews on the Kuro's. Is a know fact Plasma>LCD. Go to the AVS, or Google.

120hz on a LCD(Which makes the image looks kind of funny to me) is just trying to mimic 60-75hz on a Plasma. Plasma doesn't suffer from motion blur like LCD's. 120hz or greater on a Plasma is useless. Here's a thread on AVS breaking it down for some of you folks.http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=974732

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">That's not because of the 120hz really, it's because the TV makes up frames that never existed. Not sure why anyone would want a TV that tries to show more than what the original source contained. Plasma could easily implement that sort of processing, and probably far better, but it's ridiculous and serves no purpose for critical viewing.</div></div>

Thanks Shinobi, Brisal... Yeah I forgot to post up later last night but it's pretty much a done deal that I will get the Kuro. After watching the videos Brisal posted (thank you again) I was sold on the Kuro. I did head over to Cnet and also watched the vid on the Elite model. DAMN! Perfect score! It sucks that the 5020 doesn't have great picture / color setting options because of course after watching those vids on the Elite anyone would be sold on it. Prices for the Elite though is way out of my range (3K++++) unless I hold off for a few more months and save up the rest. How much are you getting the Elite for from Pioneer? I really didn't want to spend 2K on a TV, but if the Elite was in the 2.5K area I would be willing to dish out the extra. Anything above that is just HELL FUCKING NO!!! It seems that no stores in NYC carries them either. It would have been nice to go down and talk to a sales rep and see if you could negotiate some sort of deal as the product is almost always over priced and some reps will pretty much do anything to make the sale.

Well I'm sold on the Kuro at this point and the only thing that could sway me to the Bravia now would be pricing. If the Bravia takes a massive price dive(highly doubt it will)within the next 2 weeks then I will buy it.

The color setting is fine on the Kuro, is just that is not the Elite, lol. I'm getting the Elite soon, depends how everything goes. If things don't work out, the Kuro it is. I'm getting the Elite for 2,500$ flat, of someone who's needs to pay rent. Shit is real. Let me know when your going to cop the Kuro, I know a few folks at J&R.

This is somewhat misleading. A true 120Hz LCD is just that. A display that refreshes 120 times a second. That means that video sources (BD Player, PS3, 360, etc) coming in at 24Hz, 30Hz, and 60Hz do not need interpolation (24, 30, and 60 divide evenly into 120). Think of 1 Hz as 1 fps (frame per second). If the 120fps display gets info at 24 fps, it simply displays the same frame 5 times. If it gets it at 60 fps, it displays the same frame twice.

Older 60Hz LCDs HAD to interpolate when receiving 24Hz sources because 24 does not divide into 60 equally. This often resulted in "judder" and the "triple-ball effect" when watching things with a lot of action (movies, sports, etc.)

Yes, the SONY W4100 has interpolation algorithms like MotionFlow and CineMotion that can add frames. Some people like how that looks. Those algorithms can be turned off.

$2,500 FLAT!!!! Damn is that brand new? For that price flat I would cop one. I'll be heading out to get the TV in about 2 weeks. I'll let you know. In the mean time I'll be turning over every stone to see if I can find an Elite for a reasonable price.
