Kinect for Xbox 360 is now released in North America. Wednesday, a review report from Gamespot noted that Kinect's facial recognition capabilities appear to fail to recognize players with dark skin. This time, Kinect has fueled the debate over whether facial-recognition software discriminates against some races.

What is your opinion about this news.

Voice recognition software doesn't work at all if you're Scottish either.

So if you're black and Scottish you're pretty much fucked.

I am going to take some time off my busy schedule to contribute, in a fairly controversial way, to your thread.

I am glad that facial recognition software discriminates against some races. those races did not deserve to be facially recognized in the first place. they come here and steal our women/jobs, when there are plenty of young men available from this very village/town/city/country able to do it perfectly well.

Also, as it is well known, technology is a european invention, so europeans should be able to decide who gets what and when. That is to say, if you do not get your faced recognized by a face-recognition sofwarer, though luck, there is probably something wrong with you to begin with, and you justly deserved face un-recognition.

I'm not getting one, seems like the kind of technology I don't want in my home recording all my information, which it seems to be a lot better at doing than controlling a game.

Its funny how all this recognition technology seems to have at no point been tested correctly on black people, its like they don't want our money...

I believe that this is just the hardware bug problem with the Kinect, sometimes this is just normal. Everything has its own weakness and have to improve.

No.

The only way I would change my mind is if the games begin to interest me. Panzer Dragoon and the 'spiritual successor' to Rez interest me but I worry the controls would take away from what the games could be rather than lend to the experience.
