Does the A.I read your controller like in DOA4?

In VF4E and 5 does the computer cheat?

Unlocked everything in doa4 yet no matter how many times I switch up attacks the A.I seem to know when to perfectly counter, grapple, and throw me. Even the very few smart doa fans notice something odd about the A.I

I want a fighting game with good balance + great A.I

VF 5 is one of the most balanced fighter out there (if not, the most balanced!).

Yeah it's very good. It has some problems and the highest ranks seem to cheat a bit but compared to other fighting games it's excellent. VFE is the best game to start learning VF as it also has extensive help and advice in it's training section.

The AI in VF5 absolutely does read your controller. I'm starting to understand this from playing Wolf in quest mode. If I try to throw, they crouch... ALWAYS. If I try to crouch throw instead, they do nothing. The mix-up game against the higher level CPU is pointless.

VF4E is known to have the best AI in the fighting game world. It does read your inputs though, but when you switch tactics it seems to stop doing so halfway in a match, or so I've noticed.

Sometimes you'll still feel cheated because of the machine's perfect reactions but you can also say that a player with good yomi could have theoretically made those calls as well.

Can't say much on VF5's AI though. Game's not out yet here.

I hated the AI in Evo and in vf5. I play lau. I throw a lifting palm I get low ounch countered. If I throw an elbow, they stand and block. that is bullshit. When playing the AI, I rely too much on backdashing and evading just so I can get so initiative. You basically can't play offensively.

Say you play Jeff. One of your favorite moves is likely to be: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif right?

Punch knee. Pretty awesome. But you will never use this against the cpu, or at least hardly ever, I think. Even when you hit check, you rarely get that knee to land as a counter. Yeah punch throw works, but not always. And I think that if you added up the percentages of when punch throw works and punch knee works, it would equal less than one hundred percent, meaning that the cpu most likely cheats, right?

Not that I care too much. I still love the game and don't think the AI matters much. And the AI is still better than other fighting game AI anyway. If it impacted sales, there would be some motivation to tweak the AI. I am not holdingmy breath for this to happen.

The AI in this game is absolutely annoying.
I don't see how it's a practice if the CPU keeps countering and turtling.

    Unless I'm missing something?

The AI isn't that bad. Of course, nothing can beat a real breathing opponent. But then again, being beat by the Japanese tourniment champ will leave you with a bigger frown than any AI system.

Not really. I'd rather lose 50 in a row to a great Japanese player than play the AI.

But VF AI is better than other fighting games.

What about 50 in a row from a British, Aussie, African, US, or Canadian player?

Or are the only great players in Japan?

I think it's a basic statistical fact that almost all the great players are at least oriental in some way. It's because they still have arcades over there.

Umm... the difference is our mentallity, the way we think and how we do things in Japan. Not because of arcades... we still go to each others' house a lot more than play at arcades. Arcades can be expensive, much more so than american arcades.

However, I find that non Japanese players have other qualities.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif So Sega might sponsor a tournament where some
challengers (non oriental) claim that they would give the
Japanese a reason to show some respect /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Such a tournament (Dojo style) could be worth $100k to the winning Dojo. Since the "arcade scene" is so big in Japan, I'm sure there are 3 or 4 ways Sega could easily get back the prize money.

Of course the underdogs should be allowed to choose location and sticks /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Never been to Japan., But had many opportunities to see recorded matches by what I'm told are top players in Japan.

Perhaps the matches that I saw were only for exhibition. Of course I did see skill and some style but I didn't see anything that I would consider unique or without equal. On the other hand I ran into some VF masters from Philadelphia last year who were absolutely deadly /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

It was clear their kungfu ran very, very deep

I could be wrong, I don't think there are any NA players that could beat me 50 times in a row. Even in the US the best players are ex-pats.

Masterpo, I do not think that you have played with enough different people to know what you are talking about. When you say that you ran into a great player from Philly (where I am from) but you don't see much that impresses you on the Japanese movies, that raises a red flag.

As far as Asian dominance goes, I think that it is partly the arcades, but maybe even more due to the educational systems in East Asian countries. If your culture demanded that you spend years and years just memorizing a zillion characters so you could read, by the time you were done with that you would be more disciplined than your typical American. Learning to do all the tedious little things in VF that make you better might not seem so onerous.
