Does VF5R need special Characters to sale?

I talked to some of my friends and co workers about SC4 and the main reason they bought the game was that the Star Wars characters were selectable.

Now I know the hardcore VF fans would be way against something like this happening, but I can see Sega thinking about doing this if it could sale more copies.

Personally, as long as I can choose to not have them in vs matches I could care less.

more copies sold were be better for the franchise, but at what cost? Plus what characters could be added? Martial Art Movie heroes? Sega Superstars (Fighter Megamix mix with VF5?)? hmmm

I dont think sega would do that with the vf series but rather a franchise they dont take as seriously like fighters megamix or fighting vipers. The other thing is, I honestly dont think you'd sell anything more than a few copies with sega superstars as barely anyone cares. The star wars franchise is disgustingly huge and there are hundreds of thousands of people that would just buy something cuz star wars was written on it.

Hey man, I agree with you. If Darth Vader and Yoda were in VF, I would never play it again.

I think we should forget the notion that there will ever be something that will make VF sell more.

It used to be that VF would be succesful if it had online and yet it seems like sales figures weren't impressive anyway when it happened.

I think VF could boost sales if SEGA added Borat as a playable character.

NO wacky characters please... VF could maybe use some more storyline animations and captions to give characters bit more life, but thats about all I would suggest. Silly gimmicks wouldnt help sell VF more, propably just less.

i think am2 knows by now that they're only reaching a niche audience outside of asia, and i think they're fine with that.

so long as soa keeps giving us what we want (localized releases) and vf games stay good, i won't have any complaints.

All fighting games outside Asia are a niche. Its only going to get worse since online doesnt function well with them.

Scrubs don't read frames man, online can do nothing but help sell online fighters.
Scrubs = the larger market and don't care about functionality lol.

Now my opinion, if marketed properly secret characters WOULD sell VF in
the US and probably elsewhere as well. Asian players dig it the way it is.
Like if they made Bruce Lee/Jetli/Jacky Chan/Batman/Joker with their likeness and put it on a commercial?

    Shiiiiiiiiiiet.

Now I don't think people would continue to play the game after
seeing people like us destroy them but then again there would be
so many scrubs online we would hardly be noticed.

Do I want this? (Could care less)

I've always thought that you could judge how crappy a fighting engine is by the number of guest/joke/doppelganger characters that are included... the lone exception maybe being MvC2...

No. It'll ruin the series. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_down.gif

The one thing VF could do, that would help, is cosplay outfit customizations. People want to make crazy characters. That is something SC did well, and VF did ok but could do better at.

VF has sold itself lately on its gameplay mainly without the over the top character and it has no need for it. It would ruin the game if they did it because the game isn't meant to be over the top and flashy it meant for the serious gamers mainly

I almost didn't buy SC4 because of the supidity of adding the Star Wars characters...

Newsflash, games aren't designed for serious gamers or casual gamers, they're designed to be profitable. If it will raise profits, Sega will do it.

no VF doesn't need special characters to sell WE need to get more of our friends into VF. Once you get hooked, its all over.

As fighters themselves, get real with it. How does movie stars compare to Akira's KNEE and SPoD. As items are concerned, I'm not against it, making to mare realistic, bringing in more money, promotion for both franchises. I only see a win-win in this case, unless they bring in those characters playable. It is a movie, maybe there should be an exclusive movie set stage.

    Hey, gimme a break!

On the subject, I don't ever want to think of having silly 'bonus' characters for the VF series. IMAO, having these things in will severely detract from the 'purity' of VF.

I've nothing against Star Wars (though I do feel it's a little lame) but VF doesn't need to sink to this level to attract attention. The inclusion of Yoda and Darth Vader is just a gimmick to draw in the dumber fans of the Star Wars series. I thought having Link from Zelda in the Gamecube port of SC2 was cute though.

Anyway, I think the general gaming populace is too ... er, simple-minded to really appreciate the art of playing VF (thinking of all those button-mashers bashing awaying on almost all the other fighters out there).
