I have this on my gamefly Q so it's just a matter of time. This looks to be another homerun hit by bioware. Love that company

Seriously, BioWare rock. KOTOR was great, Jade Empire was good, Mass Effect was great. They do good stuff.

Some people say that if BioWare had've done the three Star Wars prequels, they probably wouldn't have sucked.

200+ hours of funtimes with DLC on the way as well.

Bioware rule, EA not so much.

This is gonna occupy my summer [IMG]

I'm interested in DA:Origins, but I'm still unsure. I loved Baldur's Gate back in the day, but watchng the press playing the game was really boring because of all the pausing during battle to issue orders to the party. It can be so anti-climatic [IMG] Or can you program the AI really well so it doesn't depend on you issuing orders every 3 seconds (like the press does in its videos?)

I've played a bit of the game today. The graphics are kind of shitty, but that might be a design choice. It looks sort of like Jade Empire or Fable. The gameplay seems pretty cool. You can customize your character much in the way that you can in Mass Effect, and there are a lot of options. There are six different opening campaigns that differ depending on how you create your character. There seems to be a lot of different abilities you can learn, and the strategy looks like it could be pretty deep. You can choose to use inventory items and abilities through the use of power wheels like the ones in Mass Effect, and you can map abilities to different buttons for quicker access. Some people might like how you can choose to set the wheels to stay open with the press of a trigger and close with a second press, which is opposed to having to keep the triggers held down the entire time to keep them open and releasing to close them like in Mass Effect.

The game seems to inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. While I have never played the game, I understand from my sister who spectated my play that there's a sort of spirit world called The Fey and you have a spirit companion. My character is a mage, and entered into a dream world called The Fade and gained a spirit companion shortly into the campaign.

I bought the game from Gamestop and there was a redeemable code for a Dragon Blood Plate armor which you can use in the game and in the upcoming Mass Effect 2. In addition, I purchased a card that allowed me to gain two additional items and a new character (a golem named Schale) with a new quest for free (instead of purchasing the DLC).

Their games always have weak to so-so graphics, but they are all awesome games.

I will get this one pretty soon. Bye bye natural light and human contact.

    Indeed bioware is amazing!
i played KOTOR1, and Mass effect both amazing games!
the decisions u make actually HEAVILY impact the game and story. After experiencing that all other RPGs seem dull and lame with linear uncontrollable stories.

To bad i don't have the money/time for it right now but this will probably take up my winter break lol!

Mass Effect was an exception. I think the fact that the main character talked was an exception too.

Game is good...not great. Main character not having a voice SUCKS. I really dislike the movement system.

Hi ppl, I've been playing DA:O solid since release and would like to offer my 2 cents.

Graphics: Decent, not great. Graphic fanatics be warned. Fortunately, I'm not picky.

Story: Good if generic, nothing spectacular, but enjoyable.

NPCs: Pretty good variety, some generic goody-two-shoes, some twisted, some weird. NPC bantar can sometime get a giggle or laugh outta me.

Voice: No PC voice beyond basic cues (a let down after getting used to Jennifer Hale in Mass Effect). NPC voice are pretty well down.

Combat: Unless you're party is very well-equipped, you will need to coordinate your team well for any serious fighting on Normal Difficulty. I personally leave my warriors on auto and micro-manage my mage and rogue party members. Fairly varied weapon and spell trees beyond just mere damage. I prefer the divide & conquer and avoid SMD (Spells of Mass Destruction).

My first playthrough was done with a female Dwarf Warrior from the Dwarf Noble origin - in RPGs I have an obession with tough female fighter kicking butt up close and personal, preferable decked out in heavy armour. As I modified her face with a narrow dainty nose with chubby cheeks, she looked more like a pre-teen girl running around in oversized armour as opposed to a proper female dwarf. (No, I am not a pedophile; her design was based on a short, plump and pretty ex-colleague).

Origin story does affect the main story slightly. Beyond NPC romancing (yes, there is same-sex romance; no, I'm too straight to explore it *shudder*), your origin do affect the story somewhat when it comes to your land of origin, and possibly create a link with certain non-party NPCs. I'm currently replaying with a female Human Noble Rogue because there is a certain story arc not explorable by my Dwarf character *hint: romance-related*.

Highly recommended to RPG fans who aren't too choosy.

You batter it. That's all I can think of.

I forget now if you get the choice to bring that mage with you. I think you do. I was on normal and had Alistair and probably the mage along with my warrior. All I did was attack and heal when necessary using poultices (switching characters if low on health). It wasn't too hard.

Sorry if that's really blunt and unhelpful advice, but it's all I could think of.

Nah, that's a good advice. What you want to do is set up tactics, so your characters heal themselves when their health is either <50% or <25% (the first one is sure to keep them alive, the second one is risky but saves more healing items). Also, what class are you using?

If you've got a mage, make sure to set up lyrium potions at <10 and <25. This is a must for Wynne later on in the game.

Also, a tip for anyone playing the game. Don't let Wynne die in the story or leave the party. She's the ONLY suitable healer in the game.
