Well the cool thing about Aoi's [2_][3][P] is that it has the ability to go under mid attacks. If it didn't, there's no way it'd be able to beat out a similarly fast mid attack due to the disadvantage (after [2][K]+[G] normal hit).

A few characters have these types of moves too.

Shun's [2][K] comes to mind. Either that, or he goes invisible when he uses this.

Yep, Shun's [2][K] definitely goes under mids.

    Along with Aoi's [2_][6][P], we've also got:

    Akira's [2_][6][P]+[K]
    Jeffry's [4][6][6][P]+[K]
Lei's IN [2][K], and bokutai stance
    Lion's [2_][6][P] and full charged [4][P]+[K]
    Pai's bokutai sweep
    Sarah's [3][K]+[G] or FL [2][K]+[G] (not 100% sure though)

    Any others?

I think you're right on Sara's moves. I don't know the command, but there's a sweep where I whiff a lot of mid stuff...

I think timing and distance have a lot to do w/ some of these. Namely, Lion's two attacks. I've not done any testing at all, but when people sense the [2_][6][P] coming, I find my opponents either block, evade, or even just duck.

Lei's IN [2][K] I'm not so sure about. I don't have evo on my PS2 so I can't test, but I'd like to see this tested against the beat knuckle or something (at close range).

Yeah, it's Sarah's sweep that I'm talking about too.

    I reckon it's 99% timing and 1% distance.

Not sure eh? /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Well check this quick clip I whipped up:

    lei_low.wmv 2.97 MB

and some screen caps from the last sequence in the clip:

Jacky's starting a beatknuckle and Lei's starting the IN [2][K]. Watch the motion guages at the bottom of the screen. The blue bar indicates move execution and the yellow bar indicates hit detection.

Almost there... moves are still executing.

Here Jacky's entering hit phase but Lei is still safe in his execution phase.

Here Jacky's beatknuckle has finished the hit phase (no more yellow bar) but didn't score a hit against Lei, who's just about to start his hit phase.

    Lei scores the hit.

That is interesting. Thanks for the vid. My Lei Fei is kinda lame, so I don't play with him too much. Definitely useful information.

On a similar note: What if the IN [2][K] is blocked -- what mids can hit if Lei goes straight into the [P][P]? (This was on another thread). Would the beat, or [6][P], or the standard multi-player [3][K] hit? I usually play it safe, in fear of being floated.

Lei is -7 when the d+K is blocked so anything with a 16f execution like the beatknuckle(plus the standard d/f+K) will beat the 10f punch. An elbow would probably be a better option as it's much safer.

    Don't forget Goh's [2_][6][P]+[K]!

After [IN][2][K] gets blocked, you can anticipate elbows and reverse with [IN] stance (or avoid with [IN][2] or [8][K]+[G]), but it seems to only work if you're in closed stance before you do the [IN][2][K]. The move switches foot position of course, so starting from open stance puts you in closed when it's blocked, which makes the elbow impossible to reverse (AFAIK anyway). I guess that's fair. A sidekick or anything slower can be easily dodged with [IN][2]or[8][K]+[G] reguardless of foot position.

ice-9: does Goh's really go under mids? Wolf's [4][6][P]+[K] gets really low too but it only goes under high attacks AFAIK. I used to think Goh's was the same but I'm not sure.

DRE: I remember the IN [2] or [8][K]+[G] now, and that gets really low too, but is it actually dodging or just ducking? Actually I know there's a dodge element involved but I'm wondering if it's low enough to go under a mid.. say a full or half circular mid.

I'm not sure about Wolf's (seems too slow to go under mids effectively), but one thing you can try with Goh is [4][3][P], normal hit. Goh is at a disadvantage but his shoulder ram will beat an elbow. When he is at an advantage, the effect is even more pronounced.

Also, Lei Fei has that one ducking move from [2][P]+[K]+[G] stance that most definitely ducks mids. I was hell surprised to see Kage's [3][P] completely whiff when the CPU did it.

I doubt that it avoids mid crescents because it seems like mostly a dodging move. The animation leads me to believe that it could avoid some mids. My theory is it's just like his [2][K]+[G] or [DM][2][K].

I decided to split this thread that used to be under "Aoi Openers" because it's way off topic now, but has some worthwhile info. Maybe we should put together a definitive list.

    Any others?

edit: whoops, sorry. I was just testing this and either the timing is inrcredibly strict or its just not possible for the SS (wolf's [4][6][P]+[K]) to get under sidekicks. Also I noticed that the early frames of the SS can be interrupted high.

    I've seen Lei's b,f+p+k duck under Akira's double palm. /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't think he has the frames to do this. I always blow away Lei w/ my elbows (Aoi) and have never been reversed - even against the likes of Heruru. But then again, you need some pretty quick reflexes to realize that it's not going to hit and then go to the IN stance.

IN[2][K]+[G] definitely gives enough frames to go into IN on block, as I've had this done to me more times than I'm willing to admit.

And yes - IN[2][K]+[G] is evasive - not ducking. Very annoying.

Yeah, the timing is pretty strict. Like most of Lei's uncounterable moves, I think [IN][2][K] is better if it's blocked from a distance. The new Bokutai stance works much better at mid-range too. It looks like it avoids almost all mids when you've got some extra space to work with.

Akirazero: [4][6][P]+[K] beats most mid-punches and kicks (from mid-range) also. Even single-palm. /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

wolf would really benifit with a low attack ducking a mid, mabye it would make his low game entirely a little less of a gamble as it's already all knee counterable blocked low! (aside from low P of course)

EDIT: jeffry's new launcher actually goes under mids!? that is superb news! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif who ever said this guy's actually gotten much worse?

Goh's [3][K]+[G] for sure goes under mids..... and also highly likely his [4][3][P] also goes under mids... I hate it when they do that....
