I've been having a problem with evading since I started playing VF. I know that to evade that you only need to tap [8] or [2], but for some reason when I try to do this I can't evade for shit. I can do the crap dodge all day if nothing's swinging at me like that, and evade attacks are cake, but when a move is coming at me, I've maybe evaded once or twice in several weeks of play with single direction taps. Most of the time I have to hit [2][2] or [8][8] to get an evade, but this makes some of the more advanced techniques like E-TEGs and ECDs a bit tougher. Also, my main worry is that I don't think double tapping will score an evade in Evo, I haven't played it enough to be sure, as I only have Ver. C. I need to know, is there some trick to when I'm supposed to tap the direction? I've run through the trial mode evade tests more times than I can count on both hands and I'm still not getting it.

Also, in addition, how long should I wait after entering my evade command to enter my throw escapes? Don't want to be whipping out the [2][P]+[G] instead of E-TEG. Muchas gracias.

Evades won't come out if they're buffered in too early after you're recovering from a move (which is the time most ppl do them). So make sure you're just about ready to move again, then tap up.
Re: double tap problem - some players double tap the down evade because just pressing down won't make you evade, you have to do down, then neutral. So some players will double tap to make sure they hit the neutral part.
To go up you can just press up. Maybe you have a crappy stick that isn't returning to neutral quickly.

Your goal is to escape throws so you need to enter those escapes pronto. Stick with just E-TE before worrying about EDTE. Don't wait to see whether or not you dodged before entering the escapes. You should be doing for example up, neutral, df+P+G all rapidly.
